New owner of a 1996 Fish & Ski SR. There are mud stains on the bottom of the hull which havent come off with soap and water. Can we buff them out with rubbing compound and elbow grease? Will this harm the gel coat. This is my first boat, so I know this is probably a dumb question!!

Try using this product: Mary Kate On & Off hull and Bottom Cleaner. It is a mild acid that won't harm the gel coat. It will remove the brown stains and any rust stains also. Follow the instructions, easy to use and no hard scrubbing. (wear rubber gloves and use eye protection)

Hell, soft scrub will probably work too. Maybe try that first and if it doesn't clean it good get the Mary Kate. Use an aggressive scrub brush wet and scrub the soft scrub into the deck with it then let it sit for 10 minutes or so then rinse off. Should be clean but you have the Olson cleaner to rely on if not.

Call me crazy, but my secret is Resolve Triple Action Carpet Cleaner. WORKS LIKE MAGIC to remove hull stains. Again, call me crazy. Last year before I had a chance to wax our boat it got a dark/brown water line stain around the whole boat, especially in the back. I couldn't get it off with anything, no matter how hard I scrubbed or with any type of cleaner. As a last ditch effort I even tried carburetor cleaner (in a small spot), & it wouldn't even touch the stain. I went in & started scrounging around the house & found my wifes above mentioned carpet cleaner. I tried this & it removes staines the INSTANT it hits it. It was like magic! You could even see where the overspray was going becuase it would leave little clean spots depending on where it drifted. I used it on the entire boat, washed it off with soap & then waxed the heck out of it. It didn't harm my hull fiinish, but I would still try it in a small spot before spraying the hole boat. I still have some really old stains way underneath the boat that have been there forever & it doesn't seem to work as well on those, but fresh stains or relatively new stains it does wonders on, no elbow grease needed. In fact, it iurned my miserable job into a good time!
