New boat

And the name of the broker is...?

If you paid the right price, this could still end-up ok. Gauges can be sorted out. I had the same year/make/model a while back. I assume you have Alpha Is. They can be repaired without breaking the bank. The engine that won't start could be related to the drives / cable / interrupt.

Might be worth getting some estimates from a good mechanic before throwing in the towel...

Terry marine service did the complete outdrive service
Here is a picture I have when I lowered the drive down this hose popped out goes to the outdrive tank on motor they put a new bell housing on that side for some reason previous owner or broker paid for it

Boat has brand new bellows shift cables gimbal it has no reverse on port motor won’t go into gear on starboard motor
This thing had a complete mechanical survey and structure said it was fine what a rip off
If it has brand new shift cables, how do we know they where adjusted right? Can you go back to the service provider and have them check their work?

I could but it’s 205 miles away
I just found the shift cables not installed correctly on motors. Has to be the problem. I’ll find out later this week

Having just resealed my drives, there is no reason to have the drive lube line that long. Even the speedo line isn't that long. And the drive lube is higher up so it would be pretty short. And on my Alpha 1 Gen 2 it doesn't have it hooked up. There is factory plugs where it can go.

When I put my shift cables back on, both were at almost 6 1/4" from barrel nut to cable end hole. I adjusted it to be at the 6" mark and my drives wouldn't shift forward and reverse. So I had to put them back to where they were to get them to shift properly.

So you didn't sea trial at the original location?
And with such a low hour boat, why would it need new shift cables?

No sea trial
No idea it has all new cables from drive to motor, bellows, gimbal bearings,
I was told it was time to replace, the boat looks new I’m guessing it just sat in water and the previous owner got taken for a ride by people

I have found the shift cables installed incorrectly
IMHO the survey was a complete joke as well as the mechanical inspection

Well the first step is to sit back and relax. You have it and that is that. Now, lets move forward and get this fun and relaxing item you have moving forward. I'm not going to say I didn't get taken with our $20K purchase, because I did. The PO was a master at smoke and mirrors. But I have her in the driveway so I will just replace or repair one thing at a time until I can splash her. And when I'm done, I will keep going. Because it's a boat and we are never done working on them. :)

So many warning flags on this one. 85 hrs and needed all that work? No way. Maybe he hit something, but no way that needed replaced just from sitting.

You wouldn't be the first out of town buyer taken advantage of, and won't be the last. I looked at a boat where the owner was an older gent who got taken by the surveyor who "missed" several feet of rotted and delaminated foredeck.

But like Jhornsby said, it's water under the bridge -- start working the problems one by one.

That’s what I’m doing

We live in the west Calgary (look it up if you do not know where it is) We looked at two boats in the east One in Florida and one in Mississippi. Both required 10% to hold them. Both looked OK until we went for sea trial. I was very concerned about getting deposit back. But did after many notes. Go through all you emails and see if at any time you mentioned sea trial. An email is a legal document in the US and forms part of the contract. If at any time it was agreed to sea trial send the broker an invoice for all your work. If he does not pay offer a lawyer 50% of what ever he get.

That's good. Most boat issues, from what I've found, are due to people hiring bad mechanics or trying to cobble something themselves.

Just pick away at it and plan on this year being a "fix it" year. After that, you will be confident your boat is good and will have many years to play without big repairs.

Contact your surveyor and see what he says. You may have to sue him on his insurance, if he has any. I hate to ask, but was the surveyor you used the one recommended by the selling broker??

Great advice, bought ours in May, never took it off the river into Bay, it was a Fix-it year, spent all summer fixing the little stuff then this winter doing all the engine and outdrive work, now feel confident to go anywhere with it, you don’t have to go balls-to-wall first year.

West Calgary. Wow, when you got to Florida did you look at the wife and say “Let’s just stay here”?

The problem is once he handed over the money and closed the deal he waived any sea trial requirement. There would need to be a specific escrow agreement in order to hold back any money for issues in the spring. Doesn't appear there was one. It's his boat now. Not much recourse.
