New boat

Wow, okay. I'd be concerned about such low hours on the engines since that's averaging only 5 hours per year.

What is his issue with the sea trial? Is it that he just can't be bothered, or is it that he doesn't want to give you an opportunity to get out of the deal if something shows up on the sea trial?
He told me he was really busy and since I grew up with boats and know a lot about them he doesn’t need to go on one with me. I think it is ok it looks pretty much brand new. I can fix anything, I just don’t like the fact when somebody says they are going to do something then they don’t

Good luck. We can't wait to hear how this one turns out. I bet $100 there is no money in escrow anymore.

That would be the question I would ask next. In one respect the broker is right -- I don't need him on my sea trial. Unless he's driving, he just adds weight and takes up space.

Sounds to me like you just need to bring your tools, your temp gun, your best bud, and run-it-like-you-stole-it to uncover any problems.
Sounds like you have a positive attitude. Cool.
It will be fine.

This 100% sounds like POP. Those people are all about taking money a delivering nothing. When we were looking, they wanted us to make an offer and put down that offer before we would be allowed to even step foot on the dock to look at the boat. They said I didn't need to see it because they had over 50 photos on the listing. I told them to go pound sand and they started spamming me with boats all over the country that I wasn't even interested in.

If there is any kind of an escrow, you NEED an escrow agreement that both the buyer and seller agree upon. This agreement would clearly state what is to be part of the sea trial and covered.

That is an entirely different experience than I had with Pop Yachts. My experience two years ago was completely positive. I guess it depends on the specific broker. Sorry to hear you had difficulty.

Yeah they were bad. I contacted the seller via craigslist and he said they had told him to remove his post. Also that if he sold the boat out from under them, they would run him through the courts. They had his boat listed for two years and never even had one person come to look at it. It was crazy to me.

Well well well
I picked the boat up yesterday this boat has had a mechanical inspection full drive service and survey
Picked up trailer from loadmaster they did a wonderful job
Went to pick up boat
Of course they wasn’t ready arrived at 9:15 took them until 3:30 to get boat loaded onto my trailer
Boat batteries were all dead put them on charge ended up buying new batteries
Went to move drives up trim cylinders hose blew
I had him start the motors they did start
So today I go to start motors both tachs work with one engine running
Trim gauges do not work
Gas gauge does not work
Tried to put motor in gear outdrive made some hellious noise and motor stalled and will not start back up

Sorry to say, sound like he _____ you real good. Work the problems one by one. Good luck.

83 hours could be legit, maybe the guy got a bonus said I need a boat and didn’t use, I got a friend, bought a new 265 Crownline loaded 4 years ago, then got sick, boat been shrink wrapped on a lift at his house 4 years, I bet it don’t have 10 hours on it.

Anybody can have this boat I will count my losses
The port motor runs no gauges work at all I just found the remote oil fill line for drive broken popped out when I lowered drive
The starboard motor will not start since it stalled when it ran the tachs worked for both motors

Cheer up, it’s 17yo, not everything gonna work, trim gauges never work, gas guage aren’t accurate, outdrive maybe busted shift cable has drive jammed so motor can’t turn over, I ain’t diagnose but have a mechanic check it out. Bet you way under $1k to be cruising.

It really can be simple stuff, launched boat Friday, batts full charge, gauges dead, not a sound when turn key, was a loose wire to ign switch. I was freakin, mechanic said chill, 15 mins later I was cruising. Don’t freak.

Buying used you expect stuff, or you should. My hot water tank I replaced yesterday, see pic.

Boat has brand new bellows shift cables gimbal it has no reverse on port motor won’t go into gear on starboard motor
This thing had a complete mechanical survey and structure said it was fine what a rip off

As for a bad motor, I seen a engine builder go to wrecking yards to buy the motors for cheap. Takes them apart and rebuilds for marine applications. Updates the components for higher performance (reliability) and swaps in the marine parts when putting into the boats. One was a 4.3l V6 balance shaft for a customer. Came out of a mini van and was rated at 160h. He built it up and for fun put a turbo on it. He wanted to see what kind of power he could get out of it. After some mods he got almost 600 horse at the flywheel. I wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it. Took the hard stuff off and with the performance components was sitting at almost 300 horse with the carb. So you can replace a block and heads for low cost. Been thinking of doing the same just in case I need to swap out a motor.

As for the drive, shop around. When dad was having issues, he took his boat to a mechanic. Told dad the lower unit was bad. I found a complete set up for $300 that wasn't needed. His lower shift cable was bad. just because something is used doesn't mean it can't be reworked if needed and provide many years of service to you. Just shop around and if you find something, pressure test it and do whats needed to make it work.

Bought a 04 sundancer on Halloween that was in storage boat passed a survey and mechanical survey. Broker said in the spring you can sea trial the boat I will hold money in escrow in case anything is wrong for repairs.
Well it’s spring trailer will be delivered next week I contact the broker about sea trial he says I’m really busy you have had a boat for years I know the boat is ok. Won’t do a sea trial. This boat is 200 miles from me should I just load it and bring it home or demand a sea trial
Did you at least get a good deal on the boat?

Can you go back on the folks that did the survey?

No reverse sounds like the cable might not be adjusted properly. I know about that one. Replaced one. Measured. Measured again. Measured yet again and never could get it to go into reverse. Took it in and paid $150 for a shop to adjust it for me. Still don't know what I did when putting it in. They wouldn't tell me.
