Those of us that have the late 80's 340 Sundancers know all too well how useless the teak, 6-hole cupholder is to the left of the helm. I guess in the 80's they didn't have can koozies or big drink glasses.

This past week I resolved the problem on my boat. This is before:

I bought the hardware from the Defender Catalog/Website, and the teak from West Marine. I cut the teak to fit the space and applied 8 coats of finish. I drilled holes in the teak and fastened the screws through the teak and into the cupholder so there are no visible fastners on the surface.

Those are sharp!!

Excellent job - well done!

What finsih did you use for your wood.

Very nice and I need more info as I am going to replace mine too.

Have the defender link?

Thanks all. I am really looking forward to testing thoroughly this weekend.

They are manufactured by Edson to the Edson Marine link will work but they list the tripple at $48 and I paid $44 on the Defender site. I have the link on my home computer but I am in Washington DC all week for work.

I will post that link when I get home.

I used West Marine's synthetic varnish-type stuff. I use the semi-gloss as I don't really care for the high-gloss varnish look. And this stuff is ready for re-coat in about 4-6 hours and you don't have to sand between coats.

I am also refinishing the teak on the bow pulpit and I will have 10 coats of this stuff on that teak. I will post pics when I get the bow back together.

Nice job :smt038- makes a big difference to how it looks,
have fun trying them out..
