I need to replace the eisenglass in my 2006 320 canvas, I am in the Orange Beach, AL area. Anyone have any suggestions for a good canvas guy and a better product than the factory eisenglass?

Thanks!

You should google stataglass maintenance before you buy it. The stuff is fussy and easily damaged. For your size of boat, you may have a tough time storing it without damaging it. SR does not always use the best quality einsenglass and you may want to consider checking out the various thicknesses that are available. I just replaced my side curtains with new eisenglass. The old curtains had some scratches that were too deep to polish out. The drop curtain still looks like new, so properly cared for heavy duty eisenglass is still a good option.

Have to disagree with the Tiara owner - we replaced our front three sections of eisenglass with strataglass several years ago. We have no problems storing in on our boat, and it doesn't seem to be "fussy" at all. I only used the approved cleaner and polish from Imar. Highly recommended.

CJ, Do you roll the strataglass when you store it?

I'm in the process of cleaning and polishing my Strataglass panels which replaced the original factory eisenglass which was almost opaque. I roll my rear curtain everytime I go out with no problems. The material is still crystal clear on all panels. I leave the front panels on all the time and use nothing but Imar products to clean and polish per the manufacturer requires.

I try to lay my glass flat vs. rolling.

It still looks brand new after 4 years.

On the boat, we usually store it rolled, however the front panels are not rolled all that tight. All canvas is rolled in clean cotton sheets with a cutoff swim noodle as a core. We keep the rolled canvas (all of it) in the center sole locker. At no time does strataglass ever touch strataglass.

In the spring/fall when we may only have the canvas down for a day, we store it flat on the forward berth. We still use the sheets between each piece.

Off season, I hang the canvas vertically from 2x2's with snaps installed.

The only fussiness about Strataglass care is that you have to be careful what chemicals you use on it. Inmar cleaner and polish are the only productsStrataglass recommends and it is very good.

Strataglass has a scratch resistant/UV protective coating that plain clear vinyl doesn't have, so it is harder to damage and lasts longer since it doesn't yellow or get brittle nearly as fast. Other than polishing with Inmar, all I ever do is wash the Strataglass with a mild soap/water solution.

So maybe we weren't imagining the lower temperature. Wouldn't a UV block would not only protect the plastic but also reduce the energy passed through to the cockpit?

Beyond me..........where we are, you can't tell if it is 138 or 140 degrees with the top and curtains up....so the curtains stay down or rolled up most all the time. I just know Strataglass doesn't bake itself to death and turn hard and yellow in the Florida sun like eisinglass does.

I am entering season three with strataglass--I replaced the eisenglass with strataglass in all 5 panels on my 03 420DA--use the manufacturers' recommended cleaning products and the stratglass works great.
I will not go back to eisenglass...

So you bought it without reading about it? I said google it and read about it.

Back to your question of who to use, Mark with Kool Fish Canvas just did a lot of work for me and he was great. He is there in Orange Beach. # is 251-228-0794. In addition to canvas work, he made some coaming bolsters and seat cushions and the quality is great.

Huh? I researched it plenty. My comment was more aimed at this gem from you:

I have a 320DA - same as the OP. I have no problem storing my Stratoglass panels. Why don't you try reading what is posted?

It depends on how you use your boat. If you are one of those guys who is anal about storing things so they don't get scratched and have everything perfectly rolled and in the open then fine. I just said read about it. We keep our canvas stored below and out of sight. Not sure that would work on a small boat like he was asking about.
