Wayne,
This state is a freakin' joke!!! I pay an MTA Tax because those clowns can't balance their budget. Instead of cutting costs as we all would do they just pile on another tax. I haven't even ridden the railroad in almost 20 years!!! The state is also going after small businesses with sales tax audits and they won't stop until they find something that they can squeeze a few more bucks out of you for. I am done with this sh!t hole state. I used to think it was the best in the country but their liberal politics and p!ss poor management has made me sick and embaressed to live here!! As Bob Matherson, a club owner in Oak beach, used as a platform before he was run out of business "GET OUT OF NY STATE BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE"

I hear ya Todd.

This is what I deleted.

The state of New York has just started enforcing an, up until now, hidden "bagel clause" in the state tax code. This clause calls for an approximately 8¢ per bagel tax if the bagel has been sliced or prepared before consumption or if it is consumed inside a store. A whole bagel carried out of the store has no tax. :smt021

I went to go buy a fishing license. do you know you need one for the north shore of LI, AND another one for the south shore? Both of these aren't good on inland water, so that's another one. I hate this state.

How the heck can they enforce that???

By the Bagel Police. They wear little brown uniforms with a hat that looks like........well, like a bagel!

Oy Vey!

Wayne, I can't believe that. This state is really trying to drive people out of here. geesh :smt021

Believe it or not they have State Conservation Police that patrol the shorelines. I usually see them by Mt. Sinai harbor checking the clammers license's.

I should have quoted Wayne, I meant the "bagel clause"

Actually this is a very conventional tax. Not at all unreasonable. It is a tax on a service which is very common in blue states. Get over it!!! Or you could become a red state.

Oh!! LOL:smt043
I know someone who recently underwent a NYS sales tax audit. What they do is target various industries each year. They then have you produce your supplier records and sales records. They do this for the third party verification. Then they send someone down on a random day to document all of your sales. They take this info and compare it. If the sales day exceeds your claims they will then extrapolate that days sales over your weekly opening hours and hit you with a bill that they feel better reflects your sales!!! Welcome to America!!!
