Trailer questions - please help with dimensions

Hello All!

I just finished reading every post in this thread! In late June we purchased our 2001 310 with Horizon MPI V-Drives from a previous poster on this forum. While everyone says to do a survey, we negotiated the price down, spoke to the service department / mechanic who worked on the boat for the past 5 years and were comfortable to purchase it knowing the genset not working. We've been very happy and done some mid length nonstop trips (70+ miles and 40 miles each way) with no problem and really love the boat and performance. We generally run 3200-3700 and 19-22 knots with a moderately clean hull with full fuel and quite a bit of gear onboard. Speed depends a lot on wind and sea conditions. It handles much better than our previous twin engine 28ft I/O and manages the sea conditions much better.

We're considering buying a trailer and taking it to FL for the winter. We actually own a truck that can haul this boat without issue. I read few of you have bunk trailers and was curious if someone could measure the width of their bunks:

Inside dimensions at front of bunk
Inside dimensions of bunks at aft of bunks
Length of bunks
Height of top of the bunk above the cross members (want to make sure we have clearance above cross members for props).
Height of bunks above top of fenders

If anyone has their boat out of the water and is willing to take a pic of the rear and all the measurements it would be really, really helpful! Or maybe you have the measurements already?

Finally, any other advice on fitting the inboards v-drives on the trailer would be appreciated. We've only had I/O boats previously.

Thanks!
JG

The biggest problem you're going to have is that its oversize.
The Beam is 11'2"
Most states the max towing width is 8'6 without permits and restrictions.
Thats a hell of a lot of boat to tow around.

Re: Trailer questions - please help with dimensions

Are buying a trailer or building one. If you are buying your trailer the manufacture should know this information.
I cannot give it you today but, if somebody does not give it to you I will the next time I am at the trailer.
I bought my boat in FL. ordered a trailer to be delivered set the boat on the trailer did some minor adjustments and came home.
As long as you have the tow vehicle it is no problem other than the permits. (not sure I would buy them again).

No problem, I'm well aware we'll have to permit it, stick to specific roads, etc. The size of the trailer isn't that much bigger than we already tow for work (except width, but the width is such that I believe we can see down the sides because the widest portion is above our site lines. The permits will cost about $300 total if we do it ourselves or twice that if we use a service. The weight won't max the tow or GVWR so we're good there even if it gets close. This is a BIG truck.

Were looking at options to have it built or to buy it used. I've found a really nice big trailer that will work nicely. Some trailer manufacturers have the dimensions, but all they're doing is getting the bunks close as I've talked to a half dozen. Setting the forward target bunks and adjusting the post to have the boat sit correctly and have the proper tongue weight are certainly important. If we buy the used trailer, we're going to do this with the our marina and their travel lift, but we want to get it close to start.

If you can get the measurements on your trailer, we'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!

I will get them for you but, it will probably be next weekend as I am traveling all this week.
I am not sure if the hull length is the same on my 1998 310 as your 2002. I believe that I may be longer as the overall length of my boat is a little over 33ft. Will that make a difference to you?

I thought the hulls were the same. Can anyone confirm? On the Sea Ray website, they are the same.

2000 http://www.searay.com/boat_graphics/electronic_brochure/company1729/1C1_27_74DERNX16046.pdf

Without the platform the length is 31'6" and with it is 33'10" for both.

It made me think, will I have to be careful about the under water exhaust if I load on a ramp?

Thanks again,
JG

The exhaust will be fine. Your rudders are lower than you exhaust.
You will need to adjust the bunks where your props and shafts and rudders are inside your bunkers and the exhaust is outside of the bunkers.
You will only have a few inches to play with but it has never been a problem for me.

Sorry forgot to list height above fender.
it is only 2 inches.
Hope this helps you,

Hello every one,

My mechanic has been doing research on some minor oil that I found in the bilge. He says that my remote oil filter connections are leaking (primarily on the port side).

He quoted me about 2 hours to replace the port but states that the starboard are very difficult to get at and may require pulling the engine.

Any insight on replacement of these items?

Just had mine done last month. Cost about 400 labor. I had the hoses, but there was no way I could do it. The starboard is a *****.

No, I think they may have taken off manifold, riser, etc to get to it. It's important them lines are tight. They blow off underway and you have about 15 secs to shutdown or blow your motor. I'm pretty handy, but wasn't chancing it.

Re: Trailer questions - please help with dimensions

I'm looking for this in the parts guide. I have a picture myself, but also have a stock one from the parts manual. It seems that the galley sink was leaking very badly causing water to collect in the bilge and cause heavy condensation with mold/mildew. After finding the source, I noticed the leak to be excessive, and when I went to repair/tighten/whatever, it broke right off in my hand. Suggestions/thoughts? I feel like I may be able to run to home depot and find the parts I need, but not sure. I live far away from the boat, so I'd like to save a trip if possible and go out with everything I need.

Re: Trailer questions - please help with dimensions

Good luck. I broke the same piece and could not locate it anywhere.
I can't remember for sure what I had to do to fix it but, I do know that it was makeshift repair that has held for 3 years.
Please let us know if you find it and where.

Thank you so much for the measurements and pics of your trailer!, very helpful!

We had the boat out yesterday, but our port started to overheat. We came back today on starboard. Looks like we're going to replace both impellers by the weekend and hope that does it (sea strainers are clear, water flows in when the valve is opened so it looks like it's not blocked. I have the service records since 2011 and it looks like they haven't been replaced, so better safe than sorry!

Good Idea. Might want to do the stats also.

Until this, they temps never moved on the gauge, so I knew something was up right away. It ended up being the water pump on port. We're just going to do both, instead of one pump and one impellers, better safe than sorry...and they're both original.

Be done on Tuesday and too much $$ but so be it, I pretty much expected it, it's getting to be an older boat.
