Official 290 Sundancer Thread

I have found that soap foam from washing your hands will not lift the float switch on the pump in the sump. Started using hand sanitizer instead. No issues now.

What kind of soap?? I have taken many showers, (soap and shampoo) washed hands hundreds of times. and mine works fine!? You may have a cracked float in switch making it less buoyant ?!? Even the lightest soap is heavier than the float on the switch?!?!
We spend most weekends out somewhere on the pin, and do use more sanitizer. Mostly just to conserve freshwater tank for showers and dishes.

Hey BlueRay have you had any issue with your smart gauges not lighting up ? I have not been able to get mine to illuminate at all. I figured that all the gauges were slave to the main speed gauge . However the setting just goes from dim to brighter. Not particularly on and off. Have any insight on this one ? I set it to bright but nothing lights up. All other functions work.

sorry I didn't see this one till just now, I only check this site periodically. anywho yes these gauges have backlighting probs! first the 3 main (tach and speed) have separate backlight bulbs in the LCD displays these are rather dim... always, and don't seem to be adjustable by any means of control that I can find. the other backlighting doesn't really illuminate the gauges face, just the numbers and pointers which are translucent. Mine have occasionally spazed out but cleaning the contacts with De-Oxit brings them back. seems to be poor design of plugs to gauges they are a little loose and vibrate out.
 Hope this helps Thx Don

Thanks for the bit of info. I will pull the panel and clean all the plugs and see if I have any luck with it.

Hi, does anyone have the optional sunpad that attaches to the rear seat? I would love to have this option, but can't find one anywhere.

Thanks

If it doesn't have to be Sea Ray, look at iBoats.com. You will likely have to order from Sea Ray if you want the official seat. As far as the ISO above for the aft filler cushion, I'd like to have one also. Will likely have to order from Sea Ray.

If a DSM is installed, it is likely behind the hatch under the steering wheel on the helm.

Does anyone experience issues with keeping the boat level once on plane? Without touching the trim tabs or outdrive trim, the boat will fluctuate what appears to be RPM's causing the boat to list one side or the other. It usually corrects after a few seconds but some of these shifts are pretty abrupt. I am wondering if the RPM synch feature is not working correctly?

Thoughts?

highlife34, you have the synchronizer option? I do not. I have not experienced what you are describing. I assume you can turn it off? Does the same thing happen if it is turned off? If it does, it's another problem. If it does not, then it's the synchronizer.

Thanks Bay B, I will see if I can turn the synch off. I usually look at the smartcraft gauge to get the RPM's close, then the synch feature keeps them there, usually within 30 RPM's or so difference. Sometimes one side will go up 20-30 degrees, like I am throwing the wheel over, but the boat isn't turning, its going straight. It makes driving somewhat challenging and uncomfortable for the passengers.

Try trimming up a little more than you think you need and see if it stops.
Agree, this hull has a two step or false plane mode. After on plane, trim tabs full up then bump the outdrive thumb sw trim up slowly you will get a little more bow rise at first then she will settle way down nose over and get a lot more stable. If you go too high with the drives you will hear them get noisy (cavitating) then just back down slightly. And since there is less hull in water better fuel economy

Hello All, first time here. Hope you don't mind a pre-2006 jumping in. I recently purhased a very nice 2000 290. Have been out a couple of times and working out the small bugs, and getting exactly the way I want it, cosmetically and mechanically. Anyway, one of the bigger issues I have is that the port motor (Twin 5.0L's) is not running up like the Stbd one is. At my leisure, dropped it in tonight for quick test, to see if I thought it was mechanical or Indication on the tach. It's definitely mechanical. I ran them both up independantly. Port maxed out at about 2800, Stbd maxed out at about 3400 or a little better. When I am planing out, the Port engine quits winding up 3400, as to where the Stbd will punch up to about 4K. I'm losing a lot of planing power. Once on-plane, I back them down to between 3200 and 3400 and all is good and I can sync them up. I have a synchro indicator. New Fuel Filters on both. Could it be something as simple as timing? They are throttle body injection. Thanks in advance for any input. Jeff

Thanks...but Sea Ray does not have stock or access to prior model seats. They have been cordial but not very helpful in my search. I may have to browse current year models to try and find a double unit that will retrofit. Most seats from aftermarket are....well...kinda cheaply made.

On the instrument panel there are buttons Vent "open" and "close". What is their function? Nothing happens when I press them.
