Official 380 Thread

How’s everyone doing? I haven’t done any upgrades to my 380 this year, still wanting to do the salon floor….

who has done what this off season?

New cockpit upholstery on seat bottoms. (Didn’t need them but the Admiral is very Anal.)
New ice maker in Cockpit
New LED bulbs in entire Cockpit and entire cabin.
New LED strip lights under cabinets in Galley and Salon.
New Impellers on engines and genny.( just because boat is new to me so I wanted a clean slate to work with).
Removed windshield screw cover. Removed all screws and resealed them and re-bedded them, installed new windshield screw cover.
Removed all bolts from windlass and bow pulpit and re sealed and re-bedded them.
More to come as I am still working on getting this new to me boat at
A point where I have somewhat of an idea when things were replaced or repaired.

I bought a 540, does that count ? :)
Finishing up a little engine maintenance I should have done during the winter and then our 380 will be on the market.

I am curious about a few of these.
  • New LED bulbs in entire Cockpit and entire cabin.
  • New LED strip lights under cabinets in Galley and Salon.
Can you share the make and model?
  • Removed windshield screw cover. Removed all screws and resealed them and re-bedded them, installed new windshield screw cover.
Is this the black rubber seal where the bottom frame meets the fiberglass? Surveyor said mine needs to be replaced. If yes, make and model?

How does one "re-seal and rebedd" correctly, I'd like to do this as well. How di you learn, YouTube videos?

Gas or diesel 380? Hours?

The Cockpit and Interior light bulbs came from Light in the box. I will find the correct Model no.s for you. They cost about $20.00 for 10 of them. That sounds cheap but I used them on my previous 370 for 3 yrs. and never had an issue with one.
The under cabinet strip lights came from Home Depot. They are 110V the galley plugs in behind the microwave and the salon plugs in inside the cabinet above the sofa. They have 3M adhesive tape on the back and just stick to the underside of the cabinet. The Admiral loves them. They look real nice when just them are on.

Yes, the black seal that fits inside the track of the windshield frame.
Remove the old foam and replace with the new Rubber stuff. It is purchased at Flounder Pounder. part no. 8349040 30 ft required for the sides and port and starboard windshield. Part no. 8349030 3 ft required for the center vent window. The rubber stuff holds up better and less shrink from the sun.
If you want to replace with foam like original it is purchased from McMaster Carr part no. 8694 K153 for the sides and port / starboard.
Part no. 8694 K88 for center. But it will shrink a lot and breakdown faster from the Sun and heat.

When I removed the Screws from the windshield track I completely cleaned out the holes and filled them full of Boatlife silicone Caulk. Added more caulk to the threads and put the screws back in and tightened them down. I use boatlife because it stays somewhat pliable. I did not remove the windshield and frame. I do this about every 4 to 5 years just to keep water out. I take the screws out and leave them out while in winter storage. That way the holes have a chance to dry out if any moisture had gotten in there by chance.

I did the same thing with my Anchor pulpit. There is really no place water can get in except the holes. My windlass I removed. I have it off still while in storage just to let it dry from any potential water that may have gotten in over time. When I purchased the boat last year, The surveyor found a slight amount of moisture when he surveyed it. That’s why I removed it.
I will caulk around the opening in deck where rode goes down into hull and I will caulk all screw holes and screws and re attach (Bed down) the windlass.

When I purchased my 380 this last year the surveyor told me that Searay of this vintage are notorious for moisture around windshield and windlass/ pulpit. Resealing them every few years is a good idea.

I did not You Tube any of this. I am pretty handy and most of this is pretty straight forward.
Be careful removing the windlass as you do not want to pull off gel coat. Go slow and use a small bare wire to cut the caulk from underneath it as you lift it off. Do not re seal with 3M 5200 or you will never get it off again.

Hopefully this helps you. It is pretty lengthy. Sorry about that.

Reach out if you have more questions.

I Bought 2 10 pack of these.

Thanks @Nauti 97, I am pretty handy as well, at least I think I am :) and this appears to be straight forward. Yeah, my surveyor told me the same so I plan to get in front of this before there are issues.

I was on the boat for the first time today since buying it. Looking at the panel what are these two systems breakers for? I flipped them on and off and didn't notice anything change..

Also, what are these solenoid breakers? I'm used a battery switches being on the outside of the boat, in the cockpit, with a knob, is that with these are?

Basically they turn your 3 banks on or off. I leave my port and starboard on all the time, and operate the genny when I want to run it

Your "systems" breakers are all of your 110v outlets, inside and outside, port and starboard.

You will want to confirm that your batteries charge if your solenoids are off. Whether solenoids or manual switches I've always left mine on 100% of the time when the boat is in the water.

I have some questions about the 380 speakers/amp. Everything looks stock. It's good enough for me for now.

  • 2 speakers were working in the cabin, though I see what looks like 4 in the headliner/ceiling. Are there 4? If yes, what size?
  • Is there an amp for the cockpit and/or cabin speakers?
  • Is there a subwoofer anywhere?
  • I heard speakers in the forward berth as well though I could not find them.

If you have upgraded yours I am curious to hear about your component/head selection.

Thanks

I think there is 4 in the salon, 2 in main stateroom and 2 in the main living area. But not positive, cause I don’t use that part. Pretty sure it’s fed off the power of the stereo. The amp is mounted behind the couch back under the main electrical panels. To access it, slide the seat bottom out, and there is about 5 screws under the backrest. Once those are removed, lift the backrest up and out The amp powers the 4-6.5’s in the cockpit and a 10” subwoofer under the Y shape seat. On the starboard side behind the captains seat….

Hi does anyone have a good list of thru-hull replacements for a late 2001, I went through and measured them all but it does not seem to line up correctly with the manual maybe my eyes are bad. I would like to replace all plastic thru-hull with the stainless one. If you have them saved in a shopping cart or written down somewhere I would be at your debt. TIA

@Mig22 may have a list

If it is Sirius XM then no, not original, they started in 2008.
If it is bluetooth, probably not original, the first bluetooth car stereos were introduced in 2000 model year by Chrysler.
I would bet that this is not original to your 380.
It probably came from the factory with a Clarion AM/FM with cassette and a 6 disk CD changer, most Searay of that Size range and Vintage had that set up installed.
