Official 380 Thread

This is a good time to update the boat search to replace our 380. Prospects were very grim in the Puget Sound for any boat.

So we were hosting a New Year's Eve dinner with our boating buddies and two couples came over. We recognized them from summer 2020. They were on our boat and liked the new upholstery and the Corinthian Carpet.

We were lamenting the fact that we had sold our boat and could not find anything to replace it. One of the new guests said "Oh, we are selling our boat and moving to Arizona". BOOM, done deal!!!!

We are closing on Monday or Tuesday on a 2007 Sea Ray 44 Sedan Bridge. Private party sale. I did all the arrangements for the escrow and title and survey and mechanical. Insurance company needs survey.

The karma of the whole thing is we left our 380 pretty well equipped for the new owners. The new boat has much more on it as they are out of boating.

So I will be over on the 420/44 Sedan Bridge forum for now on!

Cheers!

380DA gents, I am under contract to buy this girl: https://www.yachtworld.com/yacht/2001-sea-ray-380-sundancer-8059883/

Sellers put a heater in the engine compartment and winterized fresh water systems only, which means all raw water systems still have raw water in them. I am using a previous prospective buyers hull survey from November, (I have talked to the buyer and the surveyor, boat checked out great, buyer walked away for other reasons) and will not be getting a 2nd hull survey. Sea trial only is 02/25.

I am concerned the sellers are trying to save money by not winterizing the raw water systems (AC for example) and I will end up with something that froze and broke. While on the boat on 02/25 what, and where, should I check for? I am not worried about the raw water side of the engines since the engine compartment has a heater and I'll be going on a sea trial. I am more worried about an AC fitting, or something else "hidden" that I find a few weeks after taking ownership.

Thanks

I would get a second survey.

but at that age if those fittings haven’t been replaced you should be prepared for their failure anyway. Not saying they will be bad but be prepared for them to go bad.

I did just confirm from the selling broker since last time I spoke with him the sellers did winterize the AC systems.

He's trying to tell me though the water is too cold, 40°, to run them. That's news to me having owned many boats and used the heat.

Prior surveyor is going to meet me at the boat on the day of sea trial to go over his results and double check the boat again for $300.

That would be border line temp for a reverse cycle system. One with an electrical heater element would run.

Both are reverse cycle. I Googled this after posting here and it appears the manufacturer recommends not running the systems if the water temp is below 40.

I need to replace gasket for electric window vent on my 2001 380 DA. I couldn’t find the part number in the SR parts manual and I have searched the forum as well. Does anyone know the part number and a source to purchase? Tim

Looking for some guidance from those in the know…

Looked at a 1998 370 Sundancer today that appears to be 8.1 powered. Was this an option in 1998 or has this already been repowered?

Thanks for the help.

Repowered, 8.1 came out about midway of the 2001 model year iirc

Its probably a Taylor Made gasket, it was on my 2006 38. Can’t help you with the part number on your year 380.

How’s everyone doing? I haven’t done any upgrades to my 380 this year, still wanting to do the salon floor….

who has done what this off season?
