Official Cummins QSC-500 Thread

Thinking of switching from Valvoline Blue to Shell Rotella this year. What are you guys using T4 or T5?

T4

Read somewhere that fully synthetic was no bueno so didn't consider T5 either.

Good luck,

J

T4, usually get it from Tractor Supply $94.00 for a 5 gallon bucket.

Thanks guys… Found it at tractor supply near me for $94 for 5 gallons.

Both Rotella T-5 and Rotella T-6 15w-40 are on Cummins approval list for CES 20086 oils. Cummins does recommend against extending oil change intervals with synthetic oils. Cummins recommends the use of CES 20086 oils anywhere that CES 20081 was specified previously.

I’m getting my winterizing bucket set up and won’t be able to get to the boat for a few days. Does anyone know the size of the raw water pump intake hose? I’m just going to next my bucket directly to the pump. Thanks.

I think it’s 2 inches. I use the Trac Eco Sea Flush with the snorkel. Very easy to use, cheap and has how to videos on YouTube.

The hose on my QSC 600 is 2.5 inches.

I also use the Sea Flush. Works awesome with the snorkel attachment. I run 15 gallons through the engine. I set up 2 5 gallon pails full of AF, and transfer the snorkel between them. Stop the engine, refill 1 pail, restart and it's done. Filling the buckets takes longer than running the AF through the system.

I just had a prospective buyer perform a survey on my boat and his authorized cummins mechanic recommended a couple of things that I'm looking for more info on:

1 - The stbd raw water pump has rust on the bottom where there's a weep hole and the buyer was told that the seals are starting to go on it, even though it only dripped once during the entire sea trial. I asked the mechanic if there is a rebuild kit for these pumps, which retail for $2,500.00 and was told no. Has anyone ever rebuilt a raw water pump on a QSC500?!

2 - I replaced both cone shaped Airsep filters ($395.00ea) and both coalescing filters ($495.00ea) 2-years ago and the buyer is was told they need to be replaced again. How often do these filters need replacing?!
I know they make a $40.00 cleaning kit for the Airsep filters, can the coalescing filters be cleaned too?

Thnx

Not sure what year ur boat is, but it’s impossible to sell a perfect 15/20 year old boat period. If ur buyer is a perfectionist tell him to move on.

That’s not the issue at all. He may take the boat without asking for a price reduction even though I am getting list price for it.
I’m the perfectionist and am just curious to know the answers to the above questions, having only owned this 2007 Sundancer 44 for three years.

If he paying u what u want then I see 0 issue. ‍ur OCD is getting the better of u sir

The cone shaped filters can be cleaned with the airsep kit 3 times before they need to be replaced, and the coalescing filters every 500 hours.
