Ok, so I am 95% sure my shower drain is leaking some how into a compartment that I can not get too. Does anyone have any helpful advice, tips, or suggestions on how to get to it? The boat has been in the water for a little over a month. There have been three people taking showers on the boat and I know at the beginning of the season that there was no water in the storage compartment in the galley. I noticed the floor was wet this past weekend so I opened the storage lockers and had the GF run the shower but I didn't even need her to run the shower. The storage compartment was full of water. (48 gallons total of water) I know that it is not my fresh water tank so that should be good. The only thing I can figure is the shower drain. The water would run into the compartment through a little weep hole when the shower was on. I figured I am going to have to removed my hardwood floor just in front of the mid cabin, then cut an access hole in the ply wood underneath, then clean out the foam that sea ray is known for then I might be able to access the shower drain. Has anyone ever seen or tried to work on these things???

Thank you in advance for any and all help...

UGH... I don't need another project.

Do you have the tank in the floor in the rear birth like mine? If so can you stick your hand in the opening to reach in there? That's the tank where the A/C drain and the shower meet.

I do but mine actually t's in the rear of the storage in the galley.

Does your shower back up to the rear cabin? I just cleaned the shower drain and had problems with the float switch. Bleach and dawn took care of that with a lot of up and down motion on the switch.

Where does it end up? you say the galley. They should be the same no?

No, I checked the bilge and the pump runs and cycles correctly. I think I will just have to tear up the floor and dig in and see what the heck is going on here.

Contact Captain Rusty on this site. He built my boat and knows a lot. Maybe before you rip the flooring up. Good luck.

I am very positive it's not the fresh water tank. I did fill it at the beginning of the season and it's still full... 48 gallons of water the water tank would be empty. Plus I have a plastic water tank and not one of the bad aluminum ones.

Silly question: Does yours have a shower sump box? Maybe you have a pump not working?

If it's anything like our 1985 270DA it just drained directly into the bilge area in the center of the galley floor with a little bilge pump in there.
I have since installed a shower sump box to keep it cleaner.
Not knowing how they layed out the larger sundancers I thought I'd throw that out there.

Best of Luck eh!

yes, I have a forward bilge that the shower drains into. I can hear the pump cycle and all seems to work as it should. I am going to start in that compartment. I'll post a picture of how my set up looks now.

Ugh.

Jason, how did you test the shower sump pump? Did you reach in to the access and activate the float by hand or dump water in till it cycled?
Do you have the access plate under that removable section of the aft birth?
If I had to guess, the sole storage area and shower sump are the exact same cavity with a bulkhead between them.
If there are bulkhead fittings to the AC drain, and that broke, it could allow water to dump into the storage, but that supposes that the pump is not working.
Like Mike said, ping Captain Rusty. I'd really be interested to see what he has to say. If you are really lucky, maybe he has some pictures of one of our old girls under construction so you can see what you are getting in to.

If there is anything I can do to help - just yell.

-Mike

Jason, where your toilet paper is, I have an access plate for the shower sump! Dont slice that beautiful floor up! (yet)
You might have to peel the carpet up!

Yeah, I've had that entire area of the sump up and it's just a sealed box with a drain hole and the bilge pump. No access to anything. I'm headed up tomorrow about 12 so I'm going to begin to deconstruct. I know the bilge pump is working and is cycling as it's supposed to. I think it's a leaking/ broken shower drain... I think this is going to be a task...

Jas,

I dug up some of my pre purchase pictures and came across this!
Looks like someone did some work!

Looks like the shower drain coming in from the left - if that cracked...........

Yeah, spent about 2 hours cleaning out that compartment and the hoses come from the left of the compartment through a sealed bulkhead. The T doesn't leak. It seemed to me that the water was coming from behind that bulkhead. There's a blank space between where that hose is and the bilge pump which is how I think I have to get to the shower drain. yeah... it sucks.

If it would be of any help to you, I can get you a picture of where someone installed that access plate into the sump
Let me know and good luck.

I have the access plate but it's just a square box with no drain access. I've had it all opened up years ago and resealed the drain and cleaned the bilge pump.

Yeah, it's a weird factory set up but I guess it's worked this long.
