Omicron, the sequel

Short answer is that they compare outcomes by vaccination status and calculate odds. Beyond this, go read the studies. They are public record.

Yes, I understand the methodology. I understand statistics and how they are used to arrive at conclusions. But they are also easily manipulated to make whatever point you wish. For statistics like those in the post, assumptions have to be made. It is unclear form the post what assumptions they made to reach the conclusions they did. However, it appears that the assumption is 100% of boosted people who contracted omicron would have ended up in the hospital without having the booster. Hence my skepticism. However, it is entirely within the realm of possibilities that my assumption about their assumption is entirely incorrect.

If the overwhelming majority of covid cases never make it to the hospital, will we ever really know how much the vax has helped?

There is some clinical evidence that is emerging that boosters have an effect. While ICUs have many patients who are not vaccinated, and a few patients percentage wise who have had breakthrough infections following both Pfizer and Moderna shots, there are very few ICU patients percentage wise who are fully vaccinated and boosted. The clinical inference is the boosters are having an effect. It is a bit early to assume this is the case but it is the current clinical impression among some hospitalists. We are still learning about this disease.

Fully vaccinated is out dated. LOL…

The way I understand it, 90% effectiveness means that, for every 10 members of the control group (let's say the unvaccinated in this case) who were hospitalized, 1 member of the test group (let's say the boosted in this case) was hospitalized.

In my opinion everyone will get it or has got it at some point. I'm sure many have had it and had no idea. For that reason I choose to continue living my life and not become a recluse for the rest of my life. I have already had it at least once and maybe twice. If I get it again then oh well. Some of you on here are letting this thing control your lives. Guess what, it has already beat you then.
I'm not saying the vax doesn't work and don't think I have ever said that, but we don't know the long term effects. A 70 year old getting the vax makes sense, that's why my mother got it. A 20-30 year old? Well if there are permanent side effects that show up 10 years from now, well...

Hopefully you have someone balancing your checkbook - per our resident Covid expert @El Capitan ‘s very own post, 10% of adverse reactions to horse paste end in death. 2% of Covid vax adverse reactions end in death per his same report. But hey, you said horse paste is SAFE, even tho the stats shown by captard debunk that.

And if only people that watch CNN call it horse paste, why do the people manufacturing it and selling it call it horse (equine) paste?

“The results showed a 6.6 percent infection rate for non-users of ivermectin, and a 3.7 percent infection rate for regular users of the drug, a 44 percent reduction in the COVID-19 infection rate.”

“There was also a 56 percent reduction in the hospitalization rate for ivermectin users (44 versus 99 hospitalizations).”

“The most striking result was the difference in the mortality rate. Of the subjects who were infected, those who regularly used ivermectin had a 70 percent reduction in COVID-19 mortality.”

Can you imagine?…. Pay a fine for not getting the vaccine

All the while other countries are removing all restrictions and ending mandates...
Not all...
'While the tax is unprecedented in Canada, similar measures have been introduced by other countries. Austria announced in December that vaccine holdouts over the age of 13 will have to pay up to 3,600 euros ($5,139 Canadian) in fines every three months. Starting this month, Greece will fine residents aged 60 and over who refuse the vaccine 100 euros (CA$142) monthly. And in Italy, residents 50 and older are now required to be vaccinated or could face fines of up to 1,600 euros (CA$2,287).'

Yes I can, the company I work for is charging a 100$ a month surcharge on our insurance premium only for the unnvaccinated. Supposedly to cover the rising costs associated with treating covid patients. Even though I had covid and didnt require any treatment.

It won't be long until we all have had it then. Here's to herd immunity!
80% of people 5 and up have had at least 1 shot. Add in those that have acquired natural immunity, The population should be in pretty good shape. If we were only dealing with the original virus it would all be old news.

Some folks immune system just doesn't work well anyway, shots or no shots. We'll need to come up with better vaccines if we want to get rid of covid otherwise mother nature will continue to cull the herd. Even with the new variants the deaths are largely among the 60+ age group... might benefit the Medicare and SS fund I guess.

No. The blood is filtered. Imagine getting AIDS or cancer from a transfusion. Extremely rare. No vaccines cross over. Nor does COVID for that matter. You’re safe.
This post on its own proves the complete lack of actual medical knowledge of the captain. Yeah, blood is "filtered" to take out viruses like AIDS and COVID!. Sure. Wow.

I guess Canada could get away with it as they provide 'free' healthcare funded by the gov't. We just renewed our insurance with my company and for just me and my wife I pay $574 every 2 weeks. This past year I was paying about $485 every 2 weeks so it went up about $160 per month. If you are charging me that much then I will decide what I do with my body. If you want to make those decisions then you pay for my healthcare.

Maybe it depends on what your definition of 'filtered' is? Donated blood is tested/screened for a variety of things and discarded.

One expert to another....AIDS is not a virus;)

I won't give him the benefit of doubt since he said "filtered to take out" meaning remove existing viruses. He's not a doctor, but he want's to play doctor and give medical advice that contradicts the vast majority of the medical profession.

That’s because @El Capitan ran CAT 5 cable at a hospital and repaired carts on the cardiac floor. But hey, the guys on here that can’t get a boner when they need it will accuse me of having a hard-on for the captard. You’ll probably be accused next. What I’ve learned from most of these “morons” (their word) is that when you post anything contradictory to their fake medical advice, they will call you arrogant, ignorant, a moron etc. And if you really want to light their fire, call their fake treatment “horse paste” - which ironically is exactly what it is. They think the true way to win their argument is to deflect with calling names - you know, just the like playground in 6th grade!
