Pimp my 08 340

I have the Sharp 19" TV w/ DVD Player like Sea Ray used in the 400 Dancer- I bought a cheap pillow sham - tan with the slit in the middle and cut out the bottom of it and it slides right over the TV.

Well...yeah, sort of...first post?

But they're alot more than that. If you're running a route from your chartplotter, they'll follow it.
They'll steer that "straight line"- automatically compensating for wind and current for the correct course, better than any helmsman. Saves time, and FUEL.

Not having to touch the wheel for 50 miles in four foot seas- PRICELESS.

Once you own a pilot, you'll always have one.

Ditto, when you run an eighty mile leg with auto pilot and you travel 110 miles manually, you will see a use quickly.

You have peeked my interest in this, sure would be nice to have before we make that long cruise to New York next July. Looks like it is time for me to do some research on this.

I have installed autopilots in both the 320 and 340, so if I can be of any assistance, please let me know.

Excellent. When can you be in my Marina to install and do you work for beer?

LOL. I can at least offer some methods of running the wiring to the helm from the engine compartment, and then to the flux gate compass. It's a pain in the rear, since SR felt the need to use a full tube of silicone on the wiring passage, but can be done with a punch, or some thing like it. I left a length of speaker wire from the electrical panel to the engine room for future wire pulls, which is something I recommend you do after you are done pulling the wires. I can also offer many pictures of the install, for your reference, just let me know what you need, I'd be happy to oblige.

It is certainly a DIY project, really not that difficult to do. I would allow at least 10 hours to do it correctly though.

I appreciate the offer. Sounds a little above my current skill level. I'm going to wait another season and see if I plan on keeping this or can afford/justify moving up. If I keep it, I'm putting one one...but I'd really like to get up to diesels and a boat big enough I can keep for a longer period of time.

I also used the same mount plus I added an extra socket in the mid berth on the cabinet under the steps. I don't have the optional tv/dvd on the ceiling so it works out great being able to move it around.

Just an FYI, the mount is made by southcoast marine products but have no clue if they sell to the general public.

Where did you mount the flux gate compass on the 320 or even the 340. The instructions say in the center of the boat not near any metal or electronics. Good luck finding that in any of these boats. Thanks for the info.

John,

What is the outside diameter of the SS mount or the "rod holder" inside diameter? I'm wondering if I can use a SS 0° angle rod holder and a custom SS pipe with a standard "X" flat plate TV mount...

Do you have a phone number or email for "the mount is made by southcoast marine products" - I have been looking for something like this for the last 6-9 months. Does anyone else know of mounts similar to this?

Just a though I did not see addressed earlier. Replacing the refridgerater door panel w/ Stainless Steel. I did this on our 320 and my wife enjoyed the coments from people thinking it was an upgrade unit! How abour Real air horns vs. the crap installed at the facory. On our 320 we mounted it to the anchor locker hatch and mounted the compressor insir on a wall. Congrats, Good thread.

I Googled them, but it appears they only sell wholesale - they don't even have a website. They are only listed in the Clearwater business directories...

I'll have to measure.

wow, this really took on a life of its own, i am glad that we are exchaning so many ideas.....

the light fixtures are all in one, meaning that the white and blue LED are in one assembly. as soon as they are installed i will take pictures and post them.. the guy that is installing them for me has the lights done, we are just waiting for the tv mount to be finished. i will post pics of that also.

the lights work like this. one flip of the swith the "clear" lights go from off to an increasing power, like a dimmer in reverse. when they get to a brightness that is acceptable you hit the switch again and they stay there. hit the switch again and they are blue. and a very bright blue. we had to remove the bezels that are on the current lights from the factory and use some silicone to hold the new ones in place and then complete the wiring. they are very cool.

great idea on the horn! the current one is weak!!!

Carter,

You got it, I have your email address also. As soon as I meet with the guy for the install I will let you all know as well as take pics.

I can't wait till it gets warm again!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thinking back, the best "cool mod" I did to my 340 has to be the Teak mats in the shower and helm. I hated stepping into the bath for an hour or so after someone took a shower, the floor seems to stay wet forever. The teak mats dry in minutes. I also made them for the helm while I was at it.

Man, I hate using the words "cool mod" on our forum, but your teak work is a "cool mod" - thanks for the pics.

How did you put it together? - I don't see any nails or brads. Countersunk screws from below?
