Tried to buy an 04 390 last week and the blood sucking government money taking bank would not approve me!! Thank you to all of the people that bought things they could not afford making it virtually impossible for us that can to finance anything.

Soooo..... we are keeping the 340 which is a great boat and we want to make it better. I am currently installing blue LED lights in the cockpit and radar arch to splash blue light everywhere at night. Should look sweet, they also are white lights which are much brighter than the factory lights which you can barely read by.

Also installing a cockpit television behind the port side companion seat above the sink.

I am looking for additional ideas! Anyone have any??

Brett,

Sorry about the 390 - I want one just so I can stand between my engines!

We want to install the cockpit TV as well. If you could share your ideas, parts, pics, etc. we would appreciate it. Hampton has posted the part #'s for the Searay mounting brackets (~$260) - are you going to use those or just a rod holder/SS pole/TV mount?

What was your source for the Blue/White LEDs?

Thanks,

Feel your pain, admire your resolve and completely get your solution. Look forward to watching your progress.

I recommend you read this whole thread and follow some of the links:

I posted the link to page 6 where a lot of the meat of the conversation is.

Carter,

I found a guy in my area to do the work for me but I will get the name of the light manufacturer for you and pass it along. I am using the same guy to fabricate the tv mount so that I use the least amount of space possible. I will take pictures of both when they are installed. Send me your email address and I will send them in case the thread drops off.

If you can find a way to put some 22 inch spinners on there, let me know. Don't forget the easy fixes: antenna laid back at a minimum of 45 degrees. Ditto helm seats. You know this is right when you cannot see over the dash and cannot possibly reach the steering wheel.

If you have any exposed subwoofers they now make motorized spinner grills for them....:smt101

Dennis,

Maybe because I am a novice navigator but...... i dont get autopilot. Some of my buddies love it but they cant really tell me why.

I think people like it because you can drive in a straight line without a lot of work.

Well...yeah, sort of...first post?

But they're alot more than that. If you're running a route from your chartplotter, they'll follow it.
They'll steer that "straight line"- automatically compensating for wind and current for the correct course, better than any helmsman. Saves time, and FUEL.

Not having to touch the wheel for 50 miles in four foot seas- PRICELESS.

Once you own a pilot, you'll always have one.

Totally agree with above. 100% true.

For anyone considering it, just remember that it won't steer around other boats. You still need to stay awake, aware and sober. You decide if that last sentence is :smt001 or :smt089

John, looks like great minds think a like.

Not sure how you hid the wires, but here was my solution. With the seat in place, the only thing that shows is the wire going behind it.

I drilled a hole a few inches to the right (port) of your wiring outlet. I lined the hole with a plastic insert from SR. Yours looks very clean.

Nice job guys, if you leave them up at all times, do you have covers for them? If so did you buy them or make them?

Nice screen shot. I use a towel. I plan to replace that TV with a brighter one, though I don't think I can find a better DC TV. I'm going to see if I can find a Sharp Aquos with an inline converter that I can cut out, or I'll go with an AC TV. After I replace it, I'll make a cover out of Sunbrella. In the mean time, I use a towel.

You stole my TV rising up idea (or at least beat me to it!). The stripper pole....fantastic idea. "If you build it they will come".
