Last week I decided to pull my elbow risers as the outer insulation was delaminating a bit. I called DeAngelo in Ft Lauderdale and he said bring them in for inspection Which meant replacement. Mine where rusted inside and I was told to expect 2000 hrs out of new ones these have 1500 hrs
I drove 3-1/2 hrs back and installed them the next day
Yesterday we took friends (CSR MEMBERS) our for the day and I just jumped up on plane 5 minutes in my wife yells “ we smell something weird” I also smelt it my buddy took the wheel I ran to the engine room opened the hatch and smoke filled the opening “oh boy” I jumped down to look around and found both new risers where smoking badly wish I had video
I yelled “hit the blowers bob” kinda figuring by now this may be normal to burn off the new coating well I called DeAngelo and the tech says yeah we get 2-3 calls per week like this I pretty much yelled at him “how about telling the customer this will happen I thought my damn boat was on fire”
Anyway just wanted to post this just in case any QSM guys replace risers (1500-200 hours ) They said expect 8 hours of fast running to burn it off.
Pics of before and after. Last photo is an old one showing how it looks fine from the outside.
