My grandson is a first time boater wants a new S.R sundeck 240.
Him and his family love the beach, he wants to be able to get as close to shore as
possible....he want low maintenance and less easier navigating,
not sure if the IO, or the 150 outboard would be best for him.
Any thoughts would be appreciated....
Thanks.....

Salt water, coastal? If you are talking about the new 240SD I would seriously consider the outboard over an IO. IMHO would be a much easier to maintain and reliable package in salt water.

Thanks bill.
He may go used 2014 15 240SD not sure....salt water,coastal yes..

For me, given the short description of the type of boating and the "wants" I'd go with the outboard as well.

+1 on the OB. If he wants to beach it and relax, he can go to a full trailer motor tilt which should put the prop above the hull.

Given the use, I agree on OB. But, 150 seems small for a boat that size (assuming that is the HP). We had a 240 Sundeck outfitted with the 5.7 MPI I/O dualprop bravo 3 outdrive. I believe it was 300hp. For a boat that size, I would not want anything under 260hp.

Thanks ill pass it on........

Don't overlook the storage aspect here. He cannot keep an I/O in salt water or he loses all of the low maintenance he is looking for. Cost has to be a factor also. My son bought an older 240SD about 6 years ago, no trailer, dry stacked all its life on a freshwater lake, 87 hours in like new condition. They paid $5500 for the boat and had the carburetor rebuilt and have had to replace one trim relay. As far as beaching the boat, there are a thousand 240SD anchored in knee deep water every weekend in Florida, so draft isn't really a consideration.

I agree with the others. Go Outboard.

But according to Sea Rays website, that boat isn't even available with a 150HP.
