Raymarine C80, no scanner message, radar not working

This season my radar started out working fine. Then one day I turned it on it it didn't work. I get a "no Scanner" message in a pink box in the upper left of my screen. The soft key to turn it on is greyed out so I don't even have the option. The batteries are good, I'm connected to shore power. I've unplugged the cable from the back unit and the connectors look really clean.

I've read all the FAQs and manuals, nothing seems to jump out me.

Has anyone experienced the same conditon and if so what was the remedy?

thanks

Bob

My brand new Raymarine HD Raydome just experienced a similar problem. It worked fine the first month of the season, but about two weeks ago my C95 just said no radar connected. I checked the connection and that wasn't the problem.

I had my dealer, who installed it, come look at it and they had to send it back to Raymarine. The C95 is fine, they said it was the Raydome.

Raymarine gave no indication of what went wrong. They still have it. I was told repair takes about a month.

You may want to try and find a mechanic who can test your radar dome or array.
Also check your connections.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Thank Ryan, I was afraid of that. I'm going to go up into the dome and check/clean all connections first, and hope that fixes it. But I'm not very confident it will. I just want to check that box before I call in help.

thanks

Bob--
Another individual at our marina had the same problem. He reverted to the age-old solution of disconnecting power to the unit/chart plotter and turning it back on again, which worked. Not sure this will work for you, but it might be worth a shot. Another option would be to hit the "revert to factory settings" button on the chartplotter and see if that works. The problem with this option is that you'll lose stored routes, tracks, etc. Therefore, you might want to save those on disc prior to trying this option as you can always reload them if saved.

Just a thought.....

My radar just go back from Raymarine. It gets reinstalled tomorrow and I plan on asking the tech what went wrong. If I find out I'll pass it along.

Is there an on/off switch up on the dome?

Thanks I did the factory reset, I did unplug it and plug it back in (at least at the back ofthe unit) connections looked really clean. Nothing worked. Then yesterday I went there, turnedit on and it work out of the blue.

No clue why

Thanks

I assume you have 2kw closed dome. Even though you checked the connection at the dome, did you check that the power is there? Based on the info you've supplied at this point my preliminary conclusion is bad connection. I would do the following:

1. Unplug the connector from MFD check the contacts for corrosion (on the plug and MFD), clean all and plug it back in.
2. Disconnect all the wires inside the dome (not just power). Do one at the time so you don't get mixed up. Inspect the contacts, clean and reattach.
3. If this doesn't work I would move on to the software level (check with RM if you should run an upgrade).
4. Hardware failure I would leave as the last and most expensive cause.

Re: Raymarine C80, no scanner message, radar not working

Had my Raydome re-installed today. Apparently it had a bad circuit board and this is a common problem with the HD Digital Raydome. (Not sure what common means in this circumstance) Tech told me Raymarine knew exactly what was wrong and it was a relatively quick fix. Work was completed under warranty.

Thanks. I wonder if mine is under warranty. I'm going up in the dome this weekedn to clean and redo the connections

thanks again

I have this issue too. Worked great week before. I have Twin E 125's and the HD open array. I checked cables , fuses , Everything . There is even a a box under the dash that I traced the wires back too... V700 or something like that . NOTHING .... Ugh..

Awaiting the Electronics guys ...

Guys you are talking about two different animals here. The raydome attached to the C80 is an entirely different technology than the newer HD radar. A solution to a problem on HD radar has no significance to a problem with a C80 installation.

Bob - Be very careful with any poking around inside the raydome. These units are safe when operated over your head and when you are several feet from it. That being said, working the thing at arms length is dangerous should the thing come on unexpectedly.

Henry... U meant two different pieces of junk.

Regardless end result is the very expensive crap doesn't work. AGAIN !

This is correct, and I should have pointed this out.
The HD Digital Raydome works with the newer series units.

With that said, Raymarine was very familiar with the problem we encountered and I wonder if a similar issue can affect their other models as well. Who knows.

Re: Raymarine C80, no scanner message, radar not working

Thanks everyone. I'll be cautions. May pull the power before going up there. I'm a fair weather boater anyway. So I don't epxect ever needing the radar. Heck, I've been boating for 36 years, and 5 years ago I got my first GPS. So I'm not a big electronics user anyway.
