Im not at the boat but i know the windlass is the original Good brand. I have a few hundred feet of rode with no chain. Anyone know if the Good can handle a chain combo?

I have the same windlass. It will not accept chain. I have about 10ft of 5/16 galvanized chain attached to the rope rode. I have to retrieve the last 10ft of chain manually. I believe Goode makes an updated model that will accept chain if you are willing to part with the $$$.

Good is great to work with and they are in NJ. You might call and ask them about a trade to their robe/chain windlass model. The neat thing about it is that the new windlass will fit the same deck cut out as your all rope model so installation is just bolting it down and connecting the wires.

Yup. I was thinking that. This windlass is original and performs flawlessly. I think I already got my money's worth on this one.

Good makes a fantastic windlass and they stand behind their stuff.
My old boat came with the original Benson that quickly gave out. I replaced it with another brand and it was a piece of crap.
A couple of years ago I treated myself to a Good brand rope/chain free fall windlass. That was one of the best things I did to that boat in all the years I had it. The Good windlass was bullet proof. I really miss it.
I've only used the Lofrans that came on my current boat once so far and it is ok for now, but if it ever needs replacement I'm going with another Good.
