I have a 2008 Sea Ray 280 Sundancer. The trim tabs are not working. Can anyone offer any information on the location of a fuse, breaker etc.

Can't say for sure on your model, but the tab fuse is usually in with the main fuse panel - probably under your dash.

Were your manuals of any help?

Also, check electrical connections at the pump.

The breaker(s) for the tabs should be located on the ER EIM module (port side above the batteries). My 280 manual is on the boat, so I am not sure if there are multiple breakers on the EIM, or whether there is just one for all functions. I don't believe there is another breaker on the pump (like there is on the drive trim pump). If in doubt give Bennett a call. They are great to work with.

Might sound like a dumb question... but... How do you know they are not working?

Henry , you might be right on that. The only time I've actually changed a tab fuse was on a 215EC - it was located under the dash. But, then the 215 doesn't really have an "ER"

I'm not sure if SR uses an interrupter relay. If not, then there might be an additional fuse near the rocker switch to protect the main.

Either way, it's in one or both locations mentioned. A little "exploratory adventure" might be prudent.

Dennis,

On the 280 Sea Ray used black box magic in the form of the EIM boxes and switchpads. Each EIM has a matching switchpad on the dash helm. The switchpads seem to be networked to the EIM as there are only four wires between the switchpad and the EIM, yet far more than four switch functions. The EIM functions like a smart relay and has the breakers for each function included. That being said it does not preclude additional breakers/fuses being used (as in the windlass that has two additional breakers/fuses).

Yup, that's correct. It's been been a relatively reliable system, but SR has abandoned that set-up (started somewhere in the late 90's - even used it on bowriders) in lieu of regular toggle switches and fuses, now. It got very costly to replace under warranty. I do like the feature where you press that little white button on the side of the EIM to check all the fuses easily.

Without actually looking, I don't know if there's an extra fuse in there for the tabs, or not. It's also possible, as you mentioned, that there might be an in-line fuse for the tabs - coming off the switches.
