Hahah why do people think I am making this stuff up?? is it because of that troller guy someone mentioned? Anyways I will be going onboard her sometime in the next few days if someone following this thread that lives in south florida would like to come along for a peek let me know then they can verify this is not a disney movie lol We will be taking her out for a quick run around the canals, she i docked behind pier 66...
Anyways, let me know if any club seray members would like to come along and take a peak at this 54 :)

I thought it was a 63 now you say a 54

Hi Rszarka..
I'll be happy to confirm your boat once it's back here in Sydney..You know it is really tough buying a boat from another country. We had another fellow a month or so buying a boat in Queensland we followed his journey from Alice Springs (I think) to then find out the boat had major issues and now its on the market. I honestly think we all like to follow a journey. I followed Jessica Watson's trip around the world. I started to follow yours because it is what I did some 4 year ago. I had my issues with a the damn ship not turning up till 4 weeks late then being told there was no room on the ship because they over loaded. Panic panic panic..it worked out in the end. Would I do it again..Uhm, probably, I had a great time in the States. Finally, from all this you become wiser and not just rely on a surveyor

Oh, don't give up on this web site we would still love to hear what you are doing..

Ozzie

I can relate to this Aussies story. I too travelled around the world bought a 450 DA and shipped it to New Zealand.
To say that I aged 5 years in 5 months would be an understatement.
Luckily for me I was dealing with a vendor of the highest integrity. The vessel was everything that it was purported to be.
I did however have an issue when oil samples were analysed a clear warning sign was present , but according to the lab this was not unusual and not worthy of a mention.
In New Zealand however this reading level in the sample would have created an immediate alert according to my CAT lab.
When confronted with this fact the US lab was not in the least interested. Sloppy work on their part I say.
What this does show is that no matter how thorough a pre purchase survey is done there can still be issues arising that even the vendor is not aware of.
We await the outcome of the 63 to 54 saga.

Not trying to be nosy but some of us would like hear the details on what you found on the original boat and the collateral damage to all parties by getting out of that deal.

Glad you got out of it! As old as it was and all the sub-systems made it a a high risk endeavor.

Mate have you actually priced how much this is going to cost you to keep at a marina in Sydney harbour, I hope you have a good supply of arms and legs. :) To keep my 37 foot at D'Alboras in Port Stephens was going to cost just shy of $11k per annum, something this size is going to cost you close to $20k or even more per year at a Sydney harbour marina. Now if you are going to use it as your only residence then it is a viable option to purchasing a unit in Sydney, however many marinas are now not taking permanent liveaboards due to government regulations.

She is a great looking vessel but I do question your wisdom in purchasing a craft this big with no experience in handling it. Even my 37 foot cruiser was a bit on the daunting side when it came to reversing it into a berth. You will need more than just yourself to handle the marina docking procedures.

I wish you all the best and hope it works out for you.

EDIT: Damn I somehow missed a couple of pages of this thread, sorry about that. Still I have to wonder about a $50 per month berth on Sydney Harbour??? I for one know that surveys are cr@p and they obviously had a lemon they wanted to get offloaded, they saw an excellent opportunity in you and simply falsified the survey or overlooked things conveniently so that you would purchase it. At lest you got out of the deal and by the sounds of it you now have a nicer vessel, just wondering how you stand power wise now with the new boat? Is it dual wired like the 63 SSS? I would have to wonder why someone would bother to wirer it for 240VAC as well as 110VAC in the USA.

Oh and I am the one that Oz referred to in this thread, buying the boat in Qld and I do live in Alice Springs. However we also have a house in Port Stephens which is where the boat was going to reside. We have now reduced the price drastically and we will be taking a big hit on it but the boat market has had the bottom fall out of it here in Australia. I would not want to be trying to make a living as a boat broker at the moment.

I have even thought about taking the boat off the market and getting it shipped down to Port Stephens to use as we had intended but, and there is always a but, I think it would still be wiser for us to sell it now that all the repairs have been done and stay out of the boat market for a while. Fuel prices are going through the roof here, with no real justification I might add as there has been no supply problems with oil out of Lybia even with the unrest there. That on top of the Tsunami in Japan showing boats trashed has scared away any buyers that may have been in the market here.

I know of a 1992 37 foot SR in Port Stephens that has been on sale now for sometime, I actually went and had a look at it last month and it is in good condition for its age. The price on it is going down all the time, I believe it is on ebay now starting at $80K.

I have been reading this post from day one, but have been hesitant to post any congratulatory remarks for fear of a scam... Now we have taken an odd turn over the weekend and I still don't know.

How could the 63 go so bad when the initial surveys were successful?

And now we are signing contracts and making payment on a 54 with no mention of survey or sea trial? :smt017

I'm not buying any of this story, with or without a survey. It would be entertaining if he asked about how to get his pet pig onboard.

Since when do you spend 500k and not know what to wax??? Story is very fishy to me sorry

Wow a lot to answer here. Umm first of all there was a few msgs i did not even understand, seemed like you guys were argueing about something. Dunno! Seems like i have caused quite a bit of commotion here.

I am a first time boat buyer, i thought the survey consisted of just a surveyor at 20 bucks a foot and he checked everything. I did not realize there was such thing as an independant motor surveyor. Well once i found out about that i of course got a motor surveyor and it turns out there was around 70 k worth of work that had to be done on the engines alone! The other survey came up with lots of little crap and cosmetic crap so there was around 100 k worth of work that had to be done on the boat which put it in a price range that it was certainly not worth. So that is why i pulled out of the 63! It was very poorly maintained and just sitting.

Paul: Yes Sydney marinas are very expensive i have priced them out. My cousin is a boat captain on Sydney harbor so has many connections in the Sydney maritime industry. He has a friend that is also now a friend of mine that owns a berth that he only uses occasionally and has offered for me to use at very cheap price. So i got lucky there...

I agree with you and handling a craft of this size, i will probably not be captaining her for awhile ..will rely on my cousins help until i have it down.
This yacht will have to have the electrical system wired to work with the aussie system. The 63 was wired for both, apparently the owner was very wealthy and used to do crazy stuff like ship it across the world to use for a vacation while he was somewhere else and that is why he had it wired to be able to connect to shore power there..

That is pretty scary about the condition of the boat market. I guess the best way to do things is keep your yacht very well maintained and eventually the market will come back up as things get better sell it then if its affordable to keep that long.
I know about all the strict regulations on living in Sydney harbor. There is a loop hole, if you have a registered ship you are allowed to have a care taker live onboard. I am registering the boat in the caymans and it will be a registered ship just for this purpose.

Guys i am honestly not making stuff up here and taking you all for a ride. I did almost get stuck with a bum 63 and i am getting into a spotless 54 now. It has been a hell of a journey with many twists and turns and crazy surprises and i just hope it all works out well for me. I think i kind of got in over my head here and got myself into something much more indepth than i thought it all would be. Just hoping the end result is good for me and i have not made a huge mistake. ONly time will tell and the best i can do is keep going forwards and hope it all turns out well for me. thanks to everyone that has been of help with their advice and insight! You all have helped a lot as i was totally clueless going into all of this. Made some crazy moves like getting myself knee deep in that 63 sight unseen, but everything is starting to turn out well so lets just see how it all works out.

Wave, i am not spending 500k ... yes i did not know about waxxing boats.. first time buyer owner, got an idea and went with it... I dont have a pet pig lol actually that was a pretty funny line. Next time i am on the yacht i will take a picture with the days paper just to calm the skeptics. Why would someone bother to make up a story like this? What would they get out of it?
I am thinking about stopping posting for awhile as there is just too many people that this whole thing is bothering. I am not here to cause commotion! But to get advice help with this whole thing which i have gotten from many very cool members and i am very grateful to them!
Ozzie / Paul are you guys in Sydney? Any chance you two would want to come along when she lands in New castle in June? will be a nice ride back down to Sydney harbour i have plotted the trip its around 80 miles so should be good fun and would be a good way for me to meet some of the aussie boating community. Free beer for the trip back :)

No need to stop posting. If folks don't want to see what you have to say, they can ignore the thread.

Personally, I hope it's all real. Great story of someone just going for what they want without allowing fear and doubt to slow them down.

Ditto-
I am hoping this is real.
