Hello Everyone,

I am looking to get a second anchor for the stern of my '06 320 Sundancer. Does anyone have any suggestions on what size I may need?

I use a small 13lb fluke style anchor for my 320. Has worked perfectly every time. Its small enough to fit in the transom locker and pretty easy to deploy when i want to back up to a beach and stay put. For the anchor and 150' of rode, i think i paid less than $100.

Roger that, I use the same thing. I will tie it to my stern to keep the boat from swinging when in tight quarters.

Can't see spending that much coin on a secondary lunch hook. Get a 13 lb. Danforth. I would stay away from Hooker and the other knock-offs. My last boat came with one of them. I replaced it with a Danforth, then put the Hooker back on when I sold.

When I bought my stern anchor I was told to buy one half the size of my anchor. So I have an 8lb forward and 4lb for the stern. MM actually delivered my boat with a 4lb in the front, which was way to small. I have used both through a bad thunderstorm with no problems.

It would be good to know what kind of conditions you anchor in........bottom, wave conditions, water depth for example.

Unless you are anchoring in rocks, the Fortress can't be beat.....but an FX-16 is serious over-kill for a second anchor on a 320DA. I use an FX-11 and it holds my 30,000 lb boat just fine, except in the windiest or crowded conditions, then I use 2 FX-11's with the lines crossed. The reason for 2 anchors is not because the Fortress will pull out, but because I use 1/2" line on the stern anchors and it is a little light for the windiest conditions.

Would you recomend the same size for a 280?

I have a Delta 13lb Danforth style you can have if you want to pay shipping?
It came with the boat when I bought it a year ago and I've upgraded to a Stainless Plow style.

PM sent. Thanks.

I'd second what Frank says though I use an FX-16 as a stern anchor when we're anchored off the beach. It breaksdown and stores easily under my stern bench seat. FX-11 should be more than enough for a 320 or 340DA.

When I bought one my guess was that one rated for just over half the size of the boat was sufficient. I bought one that was rated for a 30 footer and it works fine. Good luck!

I'm a big believer in using 2 stern anchors. You can use lighter anchors and rope but the biggest benefit is the fact that your boat doesn't move around at all. We routinely park near each other with no worries about wind shifts. Here is a picture of my 260 but we part the 370 the same way using the same rear anchors and ropes.

Can you get in that close with the V Drives?. 3rd boat to the right looks like it has inboards and is in close?? Our 38DA needs ~40" draft and with the waves and tide does seem to allow us to get as close as we did with previous I/O boat where we could raise drive.

Do you drop bow anchor and back in close then jump off and set the stern anchor with the 370?

Thanks,

Mike

That's a pretty cool setup that I've never seen before. Looks like a quick and steep drop-off just aft of the running gear. We dont really have any places like that around here. The water is generally shallow and the dropoffs have a very gentle slope. As long as you dont get any yahoos flying through the anchorage at full "squat speed" youe probably dont have any issues with banging the bottom.
