Should you buy a gun or not?

I just love revolvers, they are works of art. No semi can be as pretty as the first two. The third is my Dragoon. Run out of bullets, beat him to death with the barrel. Remingtom 1858. Colt walker 1847. Virginia Dragoon.

All this gun talk, every incident in a country of 333 million is made news. It looks bad. I'm all for gun rights, concealed carry, open carry but I think most should not actually do it. Especially open carry, it looks bad. Our neighbors to the north think the minute we step from our front door we have to be armed to the teeth, bullets whizzing through the air non stop.

When one of our Canadian CSR critics mentioned where he live I was curious. He lives in a wonderful, safe place by his description. He lives in a city in an area called Halton. I looked up the stats on 'violent crime' in Halton. What I found was that the rate of 'violent crime' was slightly higher than that of the county I live in in northern Wisconsin. In fact it was slightly higher than the rate of 'violent crime' in the whole state of Wisconsin.

Speaking of bullets whizzing through the air. I remember as a kid my first year going deer hunting during rifle season. My Dad said 'If anyone shoots at you get down, take cover'. I asked 'how will I know they're shooting at me?' All he said was 'don't worry, you'll know when it happens'.

Woody, i tend to agree,
Mine hang on wall as art. I see a lot of “i will kill the bastard if he steps on my lawn”.
Shoot someone in MD, the legal fees will bankrupt you, you WILL lose everything you own. Living in a box, getting meals from soup kitchen. And thats the upside if you manage to avoid prison.
Nope, dont carry, not shooting anyone.
If you actually live in an area that you have to worry about intruders at night that you need to blow away, maybe you should move.
If you need to sling an AR15 over your shoulder when you go to Walmart, maybe you should
Get therapy
Grow some balls
Move somewhere safer
Just cause you can doesn’t mean you should.

See, everybody talkin about this kid shot people right or wrong.
Fact is, if he stayed home, smoking pot, eating pizza, playing video games with his buds, he wouldn’t have been in that situation.

Pirate, you're absolutely right. He would have been safe, those two thugs he killed would still be alive and the guy he wounded wouldn't be wounded.

But by his own testimony Kyle went down there to help protect the auto dealership and other buildings around there, render first aid if needed and generally do his week's worth of good deeds in one night.

Now let's turn things around a bit. If those two thugs hadn't tried to harm/kill Kyle they would still be alive. The guy who pointed the pistol at Kyle and got shot for doing that wouldn't be wounded.

So who is truly worthy of blame. All of them. But the one who did things legally was Kyle. The jury of his peers said so after 27 hours of deliberation.

GFC - Agreed and two other things on your "turn around"...

1) I believe Rittenhouse was separated from the group he was with and there was a police line and he was forced to go the opposite direction.

2) That's when he ran into the mob and Rosenbaum again and if Rosenbaum hadn't chased, cornered him and reached for his weapon, nothing would have happened.

Agree with GFC on weapon takeaways. If I ever have a gun pulled on me I hope its either far enough away and they are a bad shot or they are close enough for me to reach them. We trained on this also and in most cases we got the gun from them before they could fire a shot. We also practice knife defense. I remember the instructor saying expect to be cut and expect to see blood. If not then you may be too stunned to react and freeze.

Henry, did they do any training on taking a gun away from a bad guy who is pointing it at you? Even after all these years if I'm confronted by a guy with a gun and he's within 3' of me, that gun is going to be mine. I spent countless hours going over that with the guys I happened to be working with at the time. We figured that's what graveyard shift was for.

It's relatively easy when they get close because (1) they're not expecting it and the element of surprise is awesome and (2) the mechanics of a gun takeaway work in your favor, not his. It would be easy to break his hand when you take the gun if you do it right. Or if you don't break it, you could at least break a finger or two.

The class was the last of the defensive pistol curriculum, and the end of the courses for non professionals. The next range is geared for a group they classify as “armed professionals, or instructors only”. For me the next step with them is to take their five day instructor class that will open up the next level of courses to me. (My NRA pistol instructor certification doesn’t seem to mean anything to them.) But the point of my digression is that this seems to be their border between defensive shooting and tactical training. There may well be an element of not wanting to teach any moves to someone who is not going to be exposed to hours of training to perfect the move, if it can get them killed before becoming experienced.

If you ever think of parting with the Colts…find me please

Revolvers are like candy to me, I just can’t find the love I love the most. I have a nice collection of Colt PD guns. Right now I’m looking at a nice Colt 1903 Army officer’s sidearm

The media does not mention it but they use self inflicted gunshots as statistics for gun owners being shooting victims.

There is no such thing as knife defense. Sure, if you pay for a class they’ll show you “knife defense” but that’s cause you’re paying. The truth is there is none.
Try sparring w a magic marker in each hand. See if you can avoid getting “cut” in close combat.
A professional instructor will tell you to turn and run from a knife.
Nobody wins. And most civilians don’t have the stomach nor the fitness to commit to a knife fight.

Your far better off w a pistol.

I was in the firearm industry. I will say speaking with different groups it is personal preference on a loaded gun in the house or not. I would say no matter what keep it locked. The biometric safes (some even have a ring you wear) are great. I have two biometric safes and a long gun safe. As someone else noted ammo in two different places.

Unloaded = Useless

I just order a AR15 in the 5.56 NATO cal. Can't wait. Already own numerous guns
but just decided it was time for one.

14,000 firearm related deaths in the USA in 2020.
38,000 automobile related deaths in the USA in 2020.
606,000 cancer related deaths in the USA in 2020.

We should all fear the triple bacon cheeseburger far more than the gun...
And of those 14,000 how many were suicides or gang related? Suicides will happen whether it's a gun or other means. Gangs, well that's their mentality and has nothing to do with responsible gun owners. Add in justified shootings and curious as to what that number would drop to?

Based on Chicago alone sir it would drop dramatically.
