Stopped by to see where my boat was born

Don't know why but Merritt Island has 2 location identifiers........F & M.

Merritt Island has (had) 3 facilities. One of them is the R&D facility, one is called Sykes Creek and the other is called Merritt Island, I think that is the name of them but could be wrong about that. My boat for 2.5 years was at Harbortown Marina which is the marina between the SeaRay plants on the barge canal. Was always nice to see some of the R&D boats going out during the week for test runs. Occasionally during the yacht party they had every Dec., they would stage partially completed yachts at Harbortown so the buyers could not see them, unless you knew where they were.

Two Peas....great banter, cocktail...Gary's waiting for thr TRUE answer which is NOT detroit

Thanks for the compliment. It is a full time job taking on the Virginia Menace...

Just because there are two of you on here that should know the right answer, it is.....SERF is the Merritt Island identifier. That facility is not being utilized right now for production boats. There is activity there but not boat building. The 360DA and the 340AJ are both Merritt Island boats..SERF. Gary's boat is a SERP which indicates the Palm Coast facility and that plant is running strong right now. The other Merritt Island plant is called Sykes Creek facility and that is where the 50 foot plus boats are built.
Quick run down for you….
SERR- Riverview TN (runabouts)
SERV- Tellico Lake TN (sport boats)
SERT- Knoxville TN (cruisers)
SERF- Merritt Island FL (Sport Yachts or 34-44)
SERP- Palm Coast FL ( Sport Yachts 45-50)
SERY- Sykes Creek (Yachts) located in the town of Merritt Island

There are some old ones like Oxford Michigan, Cherokee Cove South Carolina and SERA Phoenix AZ. All of these facilities are no longer building boats.

That’s my guess at the question but you may find some one who knows these boats better than I.

SERRD and they will have hull numbers like 001 where as the others will start off with numbers like #501 or such. PD&E is the only facility that uses five initial letters, the rest of us use four.

They (PD&E) only make one of a certain model so we do not have too much trouble in knowing which ones are theirs.

I read all of this in a book once upon a time...or was it Gary that told me. None the less, that's the scoop.

Take care Captain and talk soon.

Just stopped by a week ago (Easter Sunday) before boarding a cruise ship to the Bahamas.
