The last few weekends we have been staying on the boat, as the nights have been nice and we don't have A/C. We won't be out this coming weekend as our youngest has a school band event and Sunday the Admiral wants to visit Silver Dollar City. Hoping next week gets a bit warmer! We may go out for a cruise tomorrow afternoon as the weather should be nice! Water is starting to cool off for sure with all these cool nights.

You did not need air last weekend..it was pretty cool. This weekend looks to be excellent weather.
I learned last weekend there is a Sea Ray 58 Sedan bridge coming to TRL.

We were at LOTO last weekend and actually had to turn the heat on Friday night because of the wind. Looking forward to this weekend should be great.

I know there is a 396 Carver going to Campbell Point marina, someone we meet at LOTO. AND if I can find a slip there will be a Sea Ray 370 aft cabin on TRL next year. Not as impressive as a 58 Sedan.

That will be a nice contrast to the Mayse boat and that Carver C52. Is guess the 58 Sedan Bridge will be at SPM or the Harbor?

I think the 58 will be at Kimberling City.

FF3082FF-576B-436D-9478-4F506A99F8EB.jpeg Man, what a great weekend! We went out for a little bit yesterday to meet some friends and then we went out today with our dock neighbors to hang out and watch the Chiefs game. Spent the day in Coombs Ferry and today was just incredible weather. The water was a couple degrees warmer (75 F) than yesterday - though I wish it was that temp in July and August! Had a great, relaxing time (Chiefs loss aside). Wasn’t ready for today to wrap up!

Wish we could have stayed yesterday, but we had to get back for our standing Sunday dinner with my Mom. It is her only socialization. We were out all day Saturday. Covered about 100 miles. Ran up to Cape Fair and then to Campbell point. We don't get to really makes those kinds of runs in the summer since we are almost always entertaining.

Anyway, we stopped at Hideaway to get gas. All self-service. We were filling up and there was a MasterCraft next to us doing the same thing. I look behind us and not 10' off our stern a bass boat appeared just trolling around, it looked like a grandpa and his grandson. When they got a little closer, grandpa decided that was the PERFECT time to light up a smoke!! Barely 5' off our stern while we have gas flowing. I commented that this isn't Darwin's waiting room and we prefer not to be part of the thinning of the herd. Not sure he got the reference, but he just turned his back on me and started trolling away. They stopped about 15' off our stern and just sat there. Turns out they were broken down and waiting on Tow Boat US to come tow them in. No excuse to light up at the gas dock though.

Wow. Just... wow. I can fix a lot of things, but I still cannot fix stupid. This year has been a banner year for it on the lake with all the new boaters. I’m all for people getting into boating, but the “kiss and ship” mentality from the dealers is disturbing. But I digress.

We want to make a run up to Cape Fair and probably have lunch at Flat Creek. I’ve got a bunch of fuel to burn up. I don’t like leaving fuel in my plastic tank over the winter, even though there is additive and I’ll have Sta-bil in it. Our day was made coming back to the dock yesterday. I posted the details in the Gas Engines/Drives/Transmission thread, but on Sat my drive got stuck in forward gear. Shift lever would come back to neutral meeting a good bit of resistance but my drive was locked in forward gear. I had slowed for a big wake and then went to spin up the motor again and RPMs increased and then the drive lurched into gear. As I rounded the corner into our fairway I instinctively pulled the shift lever to neutral. I then tried rocking the shift lever backward toward reverse and it eventually released into neutral and worked normally again. I though for sure I was going to have to pull the boat and yank the drive. Glad I don’t have to! I am suspicious that the place I bought it from didn’t use the Merc HP Drive oil when they serviced it prior to delivery. They mostly work on Volvo’s because that’s what they sell. A couple of their mechs claimed to not know how to adjust the shift cable. So I will definitely be changing the drive lube this winter as I’m going to pull the boat to install an extended swim platform.

Sounds more like a shift cable or linkage problem, but I know using the "premium" lube instead of the "high performance" stuff can cause clutch slippage.

I've heard good things about Flat Creek. Do they have an courtesy dock?

I had disconnected the lower shift cable from the linkage by the riser and the control cable and throttle cable worked as they should. I put the tensioner nut in the slot and could not manually manipulate the cable. I suspect that when the RPMs were up and it lurched into gear that the cone clutch got "jammed" in place. So far I haven't gotten any responses in the other thread with other theories. I was going to pop the top and see if I could see anything obvious, but it resolved itself before I got a chance.

Flat Creek has great food and their service has always been good too. They do have a courtesy dock there that you can use when you pull up. If the lake is down much, you have to be careful as it gets a bit shallow once you go under the 76 bridge, I've seen depths as shallow as 7ft. With the way things are now though, should be plenty deep since we are only a few feet below power pool.

I saw the part about disconnecting the shift cable in the other thread. So back to the type of lube. I know this is a pretty rare occurrence and the B III is pretty bullet proof, but I am surprised no one has responded at all.

Thanks for the info on Flat Creek.

When are you guys winterizing? We generally winterize early to mid November. This may be our last weekend. We are headed to Florida next week, and will be there until the 31st. Then we have a wedding the 1st weekend in November.

I’ll probably winterize mid-November or so depending on the weather. I try and hold out as long as I can as we will still get out and about some. Once the lows get down near freezing consistently, that’s when I really get after it.

First weekend in November this year. Just bought oil (Rotella T6) and Stabil 360. Just need anti-freeze. Next weekend will be our last one on the boat.

Well, looking at the weather, I guess we already had our last weekend on the boat. Thought about running down and taking advantage of the 80 degree temps tomorrow, but just not in the cards. Still winterizing the first weekend of November.

I hear ya there. We will probably go to the boat tomorrow and get some stuff off for winter and clean/cover the cockpit. Hopefully we’ll get a couple nice days in the next few weeks. If not, then winterize.

We finished cleaning the boat out yesterday and pumped out. The marina is going to winterize us next week. Hoping for a short winter!
