The big old 80's 340 owners thread

anyone installed an extended platform on one of these old girls ??
Admiral wants one for Christmas but I am afraid it will drag too much coming out of the hole
since they sit so low in the butt. Can they be raised on the transom from the oe position ??

to answer your question yes. they need to be raised 3 to 4 inches and there is space to do that. you will also have to go to tabs that have drop fins and that will also help get her big a$$ out of the water. i plan on doing this to Aftica eventually but i am going to follow what 390x did with his platform build.

You hate to carry the extra weight but I found a near full water tank helps with the running angle. My 340 held 100g. 70 or so would do the trick.

the tabs already have the drop fins

I have rebed all my bow stanchions, and have a few photos, but the EC would be somewhat different than the dancer. in the V berth there are screws from the anchor locker and SB locker to take it down, on the port there is a panel near where the TV would have been that needs to be removed. Basically, just find access at the end of all side trim panels and remove the panel to access the nuts. Be aware that all the screws are about 3-5" long and head strips easily.

I can tell you it takes 3 grown men to try and maneuver the arch off of a blocked boat. I removed mine to be able to crane the motors up and out. I had the idea that I would remove all but one boat on each side and pivot it forward. The only problem is that the arch wouldn't rotate because of the lip in the fiberglass, and it was SOO much heavier than I thought and I didn't want it to bend the windshield frame or pop the glass. I would guess 150-250 lbs of awkward fiberglass.

Neither post copied the original posts, must have forgot to hit reply with quote.

Thanks for the help.

I put the Swim Platforms one on my 340 and it was the best move I ever made. I didn't feel the extra weight was noticable. The old 22" platform is pretty useless and the 39" one makes a load of difference. Listen to the Admiral (this time); you won't be sorry.

Is there anywhere to obtain a maintenance manual for a 1988 340 Sundancer?

the one from SP.com is adjustable up to 6" higher ...how much did you raise yours to keep it from dragging the water on the way to plane ??
mine sits about 2-3" off the water right now

What are you looking for? There are numerous manuals on a sticky page CLICK HERE. Many are old and may no longer work, but may be helpful.
As you will see, many of the manuals are separate depending on manufacturer. There is the standard Sea Ray owners manual, Mercruiser Manual, Genny manual, etc..

Many of the folks here have a compilation of manuals if there is something specific you are looking for. Most are too large to email whole, so it is difficult to get all of them at one time. It has taken years for me to search and locate ones that apply to my application.
If you include more information in your signature, people will know what systems you have.

I did raise it but I don't recall how much. It's a pretty good step down to the old platform and the new one will reduce that drop. I don't recall any problems getting the boat up an on plane.

1988 340 Sundancer. Need rollers and or sliders for teak tri-fold
cabin door. I bought the boat and did not notice cabin door was
broken. Door was strapped in place. Cant find anywhere to buy these parts.
Does anyone know the part numbers?
