This is not new or unusual. The Guard was not armed (except for riot gear) for the summer protests nor even for the 6 Jan insurrection response. The role and configuration is agreed on in advance between the civil government and the Pentagon and is related to legal distinctions regarding their whether the appropriate mission is acting as law enforcement or support. The police, at least in DC and most large cities, is the preferable first line for law enforcement and the Guard will only participate in that role under extraordinary circumstances.

Just watch how many police cadets in academies across the country quit and choose a wiser career path. I was ok with a verdict of manslaughter as I think Chauvin was most likely a dirty cop that enjoyed whooping ass on the black kids but Murder? There was no intent to kill Floyd, just wanton disregard for his life or well being IMO. This verdict of 3rd degree murder should make people think twice about a career as a cop in the future because every move they make will be second guessed and picked apart. Who would subject themselves to that crap?

As a juror how do you disprove Floyd didn’t die of meth overdose, phenyl, enlarged heart, and 90 % coronary artery blockage?

How does one prove causation beyond a reasonable doubt?

Jurors wussed out.

My step-son is a detective and is on the departments CERT team. He wants out bad. He is 32 and has been a cop with the same department for 11 years now and is a corporal. There will be alot of cops killed over this. They will be afraid to use any type of force and the bad guys will take advantage of it. Even if the force is justified they will be fired and likely face civil suits and their career will be over. I'm glad I'm no longer wearing a badge.

IMO cops need to back off for a while. I don’t understand why they haven’t. There is no benefit from arresting someone who resists. There is no benefit from chasing someone. Let them go. Only arrest the nice criminals. Once we have the videos of cops letting a resisting perp go and they go out and rob, maim or kill an innocent person the narrative will change.

So now they were just on the news saying they want to end traffic stops for certain offenses. I can promise you this will be carried a few steps further and they will start running from the police on ALL traffic stops. Let's think about this...if a car speeds through an intersection and kills someone these same people would demand better brakes be installed on cars instead of focusing on why the driver was speeding. Let's focus on the root problem here...bad guys not obeying police commands. I promise you if you obey police commands everyone wakes up the next morning 100% of the time. If the police are in the wrong then you will get your day in court. 99.9% of police are good guys. I'm not defending Chauvin as I feel he had a bad attitude and made bad decisions but you are handcuffing all police here. If I was still in law enforcement I may be inclined to refuse responding to any call with a black suspect. It will be a lose/lose situation if they resist. They know this so why not resist 100% of the time? Offer any resistance and the police will put their hands up and back off. Those police will either end up dead or forced to sit on their hands while the suspect walks away free.

Chauvin did more to hurt the respect for US law enforcement than any single LEO in recent history. And when you think how many millions of arrests are made in the US each year, it is clearly an exception. This will pass and George Floyd is now the poster guy for black people. I know he was a guy with a criminal record and a opiate addition. But it could just as easily have been a black college student coming back home to visit his "homies". I wish it was, because then it would take away the excuses that people are using to imply they condone what Chauvin did.

But if you truly believe in individual liberty and human rights you cannot support a police state where LEO's have full discretion to do stop or detain or search you and do what they want because of where you live, what you are driving, the color of your skin. And they should not be able to kill you under the pretense that you resisted arrest. Regardless of the color of skin of anyone involved, Chauvin is the worst scumbag in this tragedy.
