Today is the last day for the Sykes Creek Yacht plant to be opened as a manfacturing facility. It is a day that is not without feelings from the employees who spent so many years inside these walls. Yes, we all believe that Sea Ray has a strong future and every one of us who has put our hands on the boats you ride in today, only wants one thing.....for you to get the most out of your boating experinces by driving the products my friends have built inside these walls for over a quarter of a century.

As written by just one of the many class acts that will be departing today for the last time. A Golden human being with a work ethic unlike most.....

Ode to Sea Ray

I awake each morning at a quarter to five to wake from my slumber and
prepare for my drive.
Take a quick shower and brush all my teeth, pack up some lunch, take the
dogs for a leak.
I get in my truck, and I set on my way, for a long days work at good old
Sea Ray.

But these days are over… there will be no more, for the doors they are
closing, no need to be sore.

These walls have built friendships for family and friends, the knowledge
and brotherhood I will take to the end.

There’s good and there’s bad we work through everyday, but as you all know
it’s more about meeting the ones on the way.

We will miss the captain he is a part of this place, but it’s the brothers
and sisters that can’t be replaced.

For 25 years it’s been part of my being, coffee and kronos allocations and
such, I will miss all the friends, so let’s keep in touch.

For 25 years it’s been part of my life, I have known most all of you longer than
my wife, so forget all the bad stuff, let it be gone, for when each day is
over, there is a new dawn.

So pull up you boot straps, stop blubbering like a slob, use all of that
knowledge and go find a job.

Good luck to you my brothers, my sisters, and friends, to the splinters of
fiberglass I have deep in my skin.

When I look to the rivers, and oceans, and sea, I will think of you often
because your all part of me.

May god keep you happy in every way, as we thank him for things that are
ode to Sea Ray.

It has been a pleasure,
Tom Coyle - 2013

It is sad to see the closing of any manufacturing plant here in America. Having been though several myself, my heart goes out to those who have spent so many hours there working for a living.

Sad day indeed, not just for the employees there, but for all of us. I hope those employees who's last day is today know how much they will be missed and how appreciative the customers are for all they've done. Best of luck to them all.

Thanks for sharing that with us Rusty. A very sad day for so many. I hope there were some decent severance packages for the folks now out on their own to look for work and I hope work is easy for them to find. Since I have had Sea Rays I have wanted to tour that plant. See what happens when you put off to tomorrow what you can (and should have done) today? I wish them all good luck in whatever their future holds!

I had the opportunity to tour that facility in March 2012 with then president Rob Parmentier. It was then that I first met Capt. Rusty and many of the Sea Ray employees that worked there. What a great group of people!

Rusty - Please make sure they know how appreciative we are of their efforts and that we wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors.

A tough day, going down the barge canal won't be the same.

Rusty - are you able to stay in Brevard or are you headed to Flagler?

I can't imagine going through a closure of any kind. All the best to everyone involved.

Rusty, I wish everyone from the plant great luck! They built my boat and I am enjoying the quality of there hard work. I used to talk with Floyd Goddard, when I had questions about my boat.......he was a great resource of information, a pleasure to work with and will be missed!

My thoughts and comments pretty much echo what the others have already posted. I wish the best for the employees of that plant as they go through the changes they're about to endure.

Best of luck to all. You will be busy Rusty, with the new 510DB and 620 at Palm Coast.

Best of luck to all the great people that have toiled there. I sure hope that each and every person that worked there is able to quickly find employment elsewhere. What a great facility - very sorry to see it shut its doors.

A sad day indeed. Praying for better days and the health and prosperity of those laid off.

Two people that had been laid off from Sea Ray earlier in the year briefly worked at my marina before being picked up by Bertram. Bertram relocated to another Sea Ray facility on Merritt Island this year. Hopefully they are able to absorb more former Sea Ray employees.

Rusty, wishing you and all of your SR colleagues bright futures. It's an amazing thing you folks did. Taking raw materials of every nature and converting them into the reality of a new Sea Ray. When I'm on board or simply looking at her resting at our deck, I realize this was built by men and women and it only began as an idea in their minds. To make something, to create something from thin air, then find the resources and the talent to make it real, that's a triumph of good people. Thanks buddy!

As we sit here on our '91 Sea Ray relaxing, this news causes much appreciation in that these craftsmen being sent to the street probably had a hand in creating a craft that over the years is just as strong as the day it was built.

All the employees of the Sykes plant are in our thoughts and prayers, praying for the best in the future and thanks for their dedication to a quality product in the past.
