The "virus" What are your thoughts

This ought to get some juices flowing. I thought it is a pretty good analysis of how Trump is playing the media differently than Cuomo, but they are both playing it well in their own way. Its biased in view, but accurate in a lot of ways. I expect the really polarized on this site will not accept any of it, but for those that are open minded will find it an interesting commentary. Its not about "what" they are doing and does not criticize actions.

I can’t endorse this narrative.

Apples and Oranges. The author is trying to make this something it is not. Period.
Trump is dealing with a hostile audience that has been very hostile to him from 2016. Cuomo is in a friendly room. Democrat. New York. Brother star of CNN. No comparison to the press conference settings.
Cuomo is only concerned with NY state. He even has a fall guy to share blame if something goes wrong in the City of NY
(mayor).
Trump is trying to deal with 50 governors, the DC, Guam, Puerto Rico, Virgin Islands, the Navy, and a hostile House of Representatives who just signed an Impeachment where the ink is not even dry. They are wolves waiting in the shadows for his first misstep. The Pelosi Gang is already lining up on the football ready to blitz. Of course the man is a little uptight. Cuomo is in a classroom full of friends. Trump is in a football stadium full of enemies trying to bait him.

The author, while I am sure is very intelligent, has fallen for the trap of the mainstream media. Make Orange Man look bad. Make any Democrat look good.

Sorry - I am not falling for it.

I am not saying Trump has done perfect. Trump can say what he wants. Actions are what I am looking at. Did Trump make a painful decision that would hurt his precious economy leading up to an election? Yes, he did. Is he taking heat for that decision? Yes. Did he know he would? I’m sure he did. That is a demonstration of courage and a devotion to your people. Trump may be making mistakes. That analysis will come later. Is he passionate, caring, concerned, trying his best to do what is best for his people, regardless of the negative implications that are surely to come? I believe he is.

Don’t fall under the spell. Stay objective. You cannot compare press conferences of Democrat governor of a media friendly state to a media hated Republican President.

There has been no surge in the US.
The rates are heading down.

NY did not run out of hospital bed nor ventilators.

Hospitals are in fact empty.

16,xxx deaths since January.

This country will get opened up in May. Let’s go boating!

El Capitan for President, 2024!
You sound so optimistic.

Sure ..but then let's make sure we call H1N1 the American Pig Farm Virus. So everyone can be reminded. :)

At first I agreed. Then a friend corrected me. She referred me to this:

"The 2009 swine H1N1 flu pandemic -- responsible for more than 17,000 deaths worldwide -- originated in pigs from a very small region in central Mexico, a research team is reporting. The scientists say their findings represent the first time that the origin of an influenza pandemic virus has been determined in such detail." https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/06/160627160935.htm

So I now agree, as I am sure you will Mprod, that we should call H1N1 the Mexico Pig Farm Virus. Right? :)

The official CDC account is US in origin.

https://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/information_h1n1_virus_qa.htm#a

I understand that. I also understand perhaps the CDC is behind the times in updating their site. It happens.

Note the part of the CDCs site where they talk about H1N1 is dated 2009:
Origin of 2009 H1N1 Flu (Swine Flu): Questions and Answers
November 25, 2009 10:00 AM ET

Note also the report on the Mexico origins is 2016. And, one of the study's authors is Dr. Garcia-Sastre who directs the Icahn School of Medicine's Center for Research on Influenza Pathogenesis, one of five National Institutes of Health (NIH) Centers of Excellence for Influenza Research and Surveillance. Not some schlepper.

Perhaps the NIH and CDC aren't communicating. Perhaps the CDC has reasons for pointing to US origin. Or, more likely, they don't take the time to update their website. That is a common thing.

So, the more recent data shows Mexico origin for H1N1. It having lived there, reportedly, for 10 years or more before "going mobile". :)

Yes, it's interesting to see the "citizen journalist" videos online. They show a local news report about overcrowded hospitals. Then they go to the very hospital and record a virtual ghost town. Humorous. Perhaps not accurate, perhaps only anecdotal.

Here’s the truth meter right here.
This is just now.

Nice to see real leadership in action.
