Hello all,
We are looking at a new 26 ft deck boat in the Maryland area and I will need a trailer by sometime in 2017. Can anyone tell me their opinion on trailers please?
I will probably go aluminum and the weight capacity or the boat is 5800 lbs. Also I think a tandem will be fine.

Thank you,
Tommy

If you are looking for a new trailer, seeing as you are in Baltimore, Venture Trailers are built in Baltimore. I just bought a triple axle aluminum I beam bunk trailer for my 89 300 DA from them and it is a very well made trailer. Check out their website http://venturetrailers.com/, they make bunk and roller trailers in both galvanized steel and aluminum. They sell through dealers, I think Dave's Trailer Sales in Glen Burnie is Venture dealer. Give him a call for pricing. A VATR-6025 roller would probably be a decent fit for the boat you mention, it is aluminum also. In a bunk trailer the VATB 6425 would be in the ball park. I'd suggest calling them, they have a good customer service dept. and give them the specifics on the boat you want, they can set up the trailer for the boat you are getting.

Here are a couple pics of my trailer. 1193.jpg1210.jpg

Thank you and that's one good looking trailer.Ill look into them and at Daves.
I also like the bunks with the poly slides.

I am surprised you can get the triple axle to stay put in the water while loading. 6 fully inflated tires on aluminum trailers can be tough to sink.

Had the boat put on the trailer with the travel lift. I thought about that issue. Guess I'll see how it goes next time I haul out using the ramp. I plan to mainly launch from the trailer in the spring and be hauled out via lift in the fall so the bottom can be cleaned while in the slings. I will be cutting in a set of sling pockets into the bunks after I relaunch in the spring now that I know where on the trailer they will need to be.

Dock mate has a 28' ChrisCraft on a triple axle, and yes the trailer will float. If you back in just enough so the boat will touch the bunks, we hold the boat in forward gear and he backs in the trailer in until we hit the bow stop, works great!

I just bought a tandem-axle Wesco trailer for my Sundeck 240. They are manufactured in South Carolina and are a common choice here in the south east. I am very impressed with the overall quality and value. I don't know if they do business in Maryland but, if not, that might be a good reason to visit Charleston for the weekend.

I had a double axel Aluminum Loadmaster Trailer rated at 9800lbs for my old 260DA. Picked it up used when we got the boat and loved it. Used it to transport the boat home after purchase and for winter storage. Traded it with the boat last year when we upgraded but would highly recommend one. It was a rock solid trailer.
