Transmision fluid

Does any one know what type of fluid to use in v drives.

I have a
ZF63 transmission. The manual says to use Dexron III automatic Transmission fluid. The manual also says the ZF63 should hold 4 1/2 quarts.

You won't get a correct answer unless you post the type of transmission. Could be a Hurth, a ZF or a Borg Warner. Some transmissions use a tractor type hydraulic oil like Mobil 424, some use ATF. Putting the incorrect lube/fluid in your transmission could be an expensive mistake.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not sure what trans is in the boat I think they are velvet drives.
