What kind of straps are the 270 DA owners using. What's the rating on them. I bought a 270 about 3 months ago. Trying to be sure I have the correct ones. Boat weighs about 8500.Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Are you referring to tie down straps for the trailer tie down ? If so, i used ratchet straps from one of the big box hardware stores. 10,000 rating i think. Over kill for sure. The idea is to hold the transom down snug to the trailer. Hope that answers your question.

Yes that's what I was in reference too. Thanks for the reply. Looking around to see what is best to use.

I never strapped my 270 down on the transom... nor I do the 310. If you hauling rough enough to need straps, then you shouldn't be hauling. It would take allot to move the rear end of a 9,000 pound boat off the trailer.

I run 2" yellow straps on the rear of by boat. I doubt it will move without straps, But I would not take the chance.

It also depends on where you're trailering. Some states require transom tie downs.

When the marina moved my 280 from heated storage to the lift (only a couple of miles) they used tie downs - I'll bet their insurance requires it.

Jim i see that you are in southern WV so im sure you would be familiar with south west Va area. I lived in Tazewell county Va when i had my 270. I hauled it several times from Va to NC, travelling I-77. Up and down fancy gap. Always with straps. My driveway was a bit steeper than fancy gap tho not near as long but i would not consider moving it from the garage to the mail box. I spent several years as a professional driver and simply would not take that chance, even if the roads where smooth as glass.

Need the straps for the idiot that pulls out in front of you when you least expect it!

Geez.... they couldn't use the rubrail to prop the boat up...they had to use the port hole frame?

Go over few bumps and I guarantee it will shift on the trailer

When I towed my 330 I used two heavy duty straps on the stern and also ran a heavy strap across the bow, going from one trailer frame rail, across the bow and down to the other frame rail.

It's just not worth the risk to save a few bucks by not buying the straps.

Another way to think about straps: The transom straps keep the boat and trailer together as one unit. There is no way to keep the boat from going up and down while being trailered. Don’t need to. If the boat “bounces” up from a sharp rise like a railroad track and significantly lessens the load on the trailer, the boat could shift on the trailer.
With snug straps, the trailer will rise and fall with the boat over every crest and valley of the road. So, if the boat and trailer are securely linked together, the inevitable up-down motions will be fine.
So, consider the transom straps “picking” the trailer “up” as the boat bounces up and down.
When I was explained that concept, it definitely makes sense to have straps capable of hoisting the back end of the trailer, at least.
It’s another one of those things - many people do things without this or that and do fine until something goes wrong.

much smaller vessel, but I bought self retracting (Spring loaded) ratchet straps that bolt to the trailer frame. Each strap is load rated to more than the boat loaded weight by a significant amount. Ratchet straps were disappearing almost as fast as the hitch pins. Downfall of public ramps and parking trailer at home within sight of the sidewalk I guess. If it's not bolted down....
