Hi all,
Trim down has been intermittent lately and recently stopped working all together. If I press the trim up switch on the throttle handle, you can hear a click and hear it trying to move up. When I press down on the switch there are no clicks or anything mechanical happening. Completely silent.

In the recent past I was able to press down and it consistently move down. Over the past month or 2 I noticed it wouldn't respond consistently but would work if I simply pressed the down switch a couple times. In the last few days I was beached and could not get the trim down switch to respond with the key in the on position or idle. I tried putting the throttle in reverse slowly and tried the trim down switch and it worked! I then noticed I could only get the trim down switch to work while in reverse. However today, it's not working at all. Nothing I seem to do will make the trim down switch work.

I'm not a mechanic but mechanically inclined. Where do I start with troubleshooting this problem? The boat is currently in my slip in the marina and I'm hoping there is something I can do (even temporarily) to get the trim down while in the water. If not, I'll just go get the boat and bring it home to work on it. Or maybe there's something I can do to pull it out at the ramp, check on a couple things underneath and maybe get it right back in the water?

Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you!

Todd

Easy enough! Where's the pump?! I'm guessing I'll find the green wire when I find the pump?

I'm on it! Thank you!

There are two relays on the pump. One most likely went bad, very common. Can get them at the auto parts store for $20 or so. Disconnect the batteries before working on it.

On your 240 Sundeck, remove the rear corner cushion over the batteries. It’s behind the batteries. Real easy to see........a little tough to access. Probably easier to access it with the engine cover opened.

While your at it, add the transom mounted trim controls. The mercury part is simple to install, a time saver whenever you’re on a trailer, and it gives you another method to troubleshoot any trim problems.

I have this one.

Do I simply splice the green wire a bit to expose wire and go from there?

Just take the cover off If it has one or move around the wiring and you have full access to the wire ends so no need to splice. Careful- it is hot all the time.

Does it just pop off? No screws?

I'm not sure where the cover is.

The cover with the exclamation comes off if needed. Look for the two relay solenoids, one will have the green wire bolted on it and one will have the blue wire fastened to it.
I remember swapping out the relay was a 10 minute kind of job, just required dexterity.

Is this the bolt that i run the hot from the battery? Whats supposed to happen when its connected? Will the trim start to drop? Do i meed to jave my battery switch on in this process? Batteries off?

It worked! I cant thank you all enough. If i could kiss you I would. I'll kiss my wife instead though.
Woohoo!

So if it dropped down by hotwiring, then the relay is likely bad and needs replaced. Easy to source, all marine parts stores have them for $20 ish, and so do all auto parts stores. Take a picture of how it is wired, unwire it and take it to Napa etc and get a replacement.

Just always remember. Blue wire is up ( sky ) green wire is down ( grass ). And keep 2 extra on the boat. One will go on a sunday when all the stores are closed and your screwed for the day.
