Upper Chesapeake trip: Kent Narrows, MD to Potomac River - destinations to visit along the way

You said east side but circled the western shore so I’m confused.
If you really mean the circle area, in the vacinity of Chesapeake Beach. There is Herrington Harbor, real nice resort.

Keep looking at map. You want a real nice trip? From Kent Narrows hug eastern shore to St Michaels then on to Oxford. From there cross bay to Herrington Harbor South. Then down to Solomons.
Be a trip you will forever talk about.
I did same trip over 10 days with daughter at 12 years old. She never stops talking about it.

PS. Tip- when taking a trip like this, get a couple of bicycles, lay on cockpit floor. Trust me. A dinghy is nice for going ashore but a bicycle is required for when staying in marinas and exploring towns.
Daughter still has scars from when we did a bicycle race in St Michaels and wiped out. Battle scars are the best.

Mrs rob.
I don’t know what your finances are. Don’t want to know. There is a place in St Michaels called The Inn at Perry Cabin.
It is fkn crazy beyond belief expensive.
But hey while you up here if you can afford look into it. Way out my range but I hear it’s real nice.
The have a website.

I'm keeping the boat in Kent Narrows through the end of April. I may end up keeping it there, not sure I can do that 3 hour one way trip that often though, especially 95 north and south.

Don’t know how how Kent Narrows does slips. If you can get monthly for a few months to explore the mid bay places it would be worth it.
I can, it cost about 30% more to do month to month. The challenge I have is the place where I want to keep the boat in Virginia is a covered slip, and they're down to one slip. So I need to commit to it.

Back in the day, we would have run down there for the day, got trashed at the Red Eye with you then left just before sunset to get home. Them days are over. At least for a while.

On the east side of the Bay, across from the area you circled, is Tilghman Island. That’s the main place you will find on the east side. Go in Knapps Narrows for a few decent marinas, a nice dock bar and a cranky bridge operator. Knapps Narrows marina has fuel.

I’d also recommend buying a tablet and getting the Navionics app or AquaMap app. You can then view the bay, depths, channels marinas, services, etc., to see what’s around and plan your trips. You can do this on the plotter on your boat, too, but it’s hard to,do that from your living room. So get a tablet and an app. But don’t use the tablet as your main navigation tool. Make sure your boat has a real marine chart plotter/MFD with up-to-date maps.

Thanks, I guess it's truly the West side of the Bay I am asking about.

I purchased Navionics a couple weeks ago and have been playing with it on my Android phone.

Boat has a chart plotter/MFD/radar with up-to-date maps. I agree, it will be easier to plan the trip from my living room versus on the boat using the chart plotter/MFD with up-to-date maps.

I think we will be doing Kent Narrows to Solomons, stay overnight, then Solomons to her new home on the upper Potomac. We may go to St Michaels first time/weather permitting.

Any favorite transient marinas to stay at in Solomons? Floaters preferred.

We like Spring Cove, but they have fixed docks. The tide range there is only about 1.5 feet. Nice ships store, restaurant on site, walkable to other restaurants.

I have never stayed at Zahnisers but I have heard nice things about it. It is more centrally located to the "action" of Solomons Island. Also would say the same thing about Solomons Yachting Center.

Fun trip.

Safe Harbor Zahnisers, there on the Dockwa app. but as mentioned also Spring Cove. Both are close to one another. SHZ has a restaurant on site. BOth are nice marina's.

Spring Cove is our go to but Zahnisers should be ok this early in the season. We stayed there once and were vastly outnumbered by sailboaters.
