Weather Sucks in Florida - What is happening

I sure wouldn't schedule a vacation in Florida from mid December til near the end of January because you can get pretty cold in central Florida and north. Unless you're going to be down for a month or two. A week is too iffy. Usually never get rain like this.

We'll be there for two weeks starting mid-January. It can be hit or miss for sure but usually we should get at least one good weekend out of it. Plus that's when the St Pete/Tampa boat show is and we always look forward to that, rain or shine.

Weather sucks in Wisconsin too. Last year at this time we had 30” snow on the ground. This year. Nothing!!
Yup - we have thick enough ice to fish on across the lake. Problem is, I can’t walk across, it’s too thin on my side. Luckily my neighbor across the lake likes to fish and drink;)

Florida in the winter can be hit or miss sometimes. There almost always will be a cold snap, but typically they are only a day or two. The only time we avoid for our area is mid January till end of Feb. Seems like the fronts push through more often and you can wind up with extended periods of crappy weather.

Note this is for the upper west coast. As has been discussed before, by mid January the fronts are all pushing through Tampa area. But most stall out somewhere from Venice to Fort Meyers. Fort Meyers is 10 degrees warmer most of the winter months.

One year the first massive front came through after midnight on new years eve. We were on the hook in the Sarasota area. Watched the fire works at midnight, went to bed. Woke up the next morning and it was cold, wind whipping at 20 knots sustained - miserable. We got lucky and was able to move to a slip at Long Boat for a day or so till it got a little bit better. Was a memory that stuck with us getting tied up in that slip...

Most years we have stayed along the west coast somewhere till the weather started looking dismal, then would take the boat back to its slip and fly back to Texas. Lot of years our trip back north to our slip was multi-day ICW restricted trip due to wind.

Thinking last year we stayed through the 2nd week of January and still had fabulous weather.

... (although we havent had any winter yet). ...

Westminster area has had snow tice already. It's regularly in the 30's at night. How much more wintery do you want?

Hate the dam winter, if I can't go snowmobiling then I want warmer weather. I am alright with uppers 50's during the day. I'd be happy with that all winter long.

Not me man, I am Eastern Shore, right on the Eastern Bay. My buddy lives up in Carol county in Westminster, he had snow already. Didn't stick around very long, but still had snow.

We were towing a hang glider behind a boat there back in the 90s.

Two weekends ago I was at the cabin. I drilled a hole in the ice and there was 7”. Last weekend my son went up with some buddies to go ice fishing and said there was 10”. Hard to believe we gained 3” in a week with the mild temps.

We had some surge here, far more than expected.

Photos below.

Among other items, air compressor, Webber Baby Q and 2.5 Suzuki outboard were under water.

Quick hose job and operation to get them hot took care of the compressor and grill, Suzuki was difficult to start, and had to change the oil - did it 5x just to be safe.

The surge in Punta Gorda was more than Idalia. We are scheduled to have a wetter and colder winter than usual from El Nino.

I have the same Suzuki. It can be finicky. Did you get it started?

Yes.

Too a while and I havwe the blisters to prove it !

I did install an in line gas filter between the tank and the carb when I bought this outboard.

Also using STABIL and only burn NON-ETHANOL fuel - called REC 90 here in FL.

Washed it down with fresh water

sprayed BOSHIELD on it

seemed better after I removed the spark plug wire and dried it out with starting fluid

Perhaps the either fluid helped it fire as well, but both shoulders are damned sore

Saved the Baby Q, the air compressor and the outboard, but it cost me a day.

Will plan better next time :)

BEST !

We're going to Scottsdale tomorrow for Christmas. My kids and nieces wanted to "go somewhere warm" for Christmas. Well, it is going to be warmer at home in St. Louis than it will be in Scottsdale. WTF? So I get to spend a shit ton of money to do things there that I could do for free at home.

For a week's vacation around Christmas ans/or New Year's I'd be catching a flight to the Caymans.
