What about those of us who tow to the water? Lets see your tow rigs.

My truck weighs 73-7500lbs:wow: I was heavily loaded headed to Ft Lauderdale and then to Bimini (which we never went to Bimini due to weather:smt089)

The old PowerStroke has close to 200,000 miles and still runs like new...

Thanks, Gunn.

Mike, thats a 2001 with the 496. Fortunately, I don't have to drive it for work, because the fuel mileage really is as bad as you would think.

I have the 6000 engine and 3.73's and the fuel is still bad, 10 mpg is good around town. I rarely drive it on the highway without towing but 15ish mpg. 8 towing the 270 is good, sometimes less. How do you compare? MM

Mine only has the 3.73s as well. I wanted to find 4.10s, but every used Sub I looked at had the 3.73s, whether it had the 6.0 or the 8.1. A lot of the Silverado pickups have 4.10's, but not the Subs. Looks like I get about 1-2 less MPGs than you. 13 is about the best I can get on the highway. Around town driving I get 9 mpg. I also get about 7-8 when towing. Despite the fuel, I really like the truck.

Have you weighed you boat and trailer? Mine is 11,000 pounds with full fuel, but I would love to weigh it loaded to go boating. ( clothes, food, beer, etc)

No, I haven't weighed it, but I've wanted to. I have estimated the loaded boat to be 9500, and I know the aluminum trailer only weighs 1600, so I have been thinking that my towed load was around 11,000 lbs.

If yours weighs 11,000, then I may be underestimating mine quite a bit. I do have twins and a genset. Do you have a steel trailer or aluminum? Do you know how much your trailer weighs?

I have an aluminum tri-ax that weighs 2500# so I'm told by their parts rep. I also have gen plus a swimplatform. Your dry weight without options is 1200 more than mine. I'll bet they are close, within 500#. MM

That sounds about right. It's hard for me to say how much my boat weighs without taking it to the scales. Sea Ray said it weighs 7700 in 94 & 95, and then it jumped to 8500 in 96 & 97 with no other changes. With twins/gen/A/C/other stuff, who knows.

I bet your trailer is a lot nicer, and higher capacity trailer than mine. This cheap Towmaster trailer came with the boat, and I'm not crazy about it. It's plenty long -- 34 feet -- but under-capacity for the boat. The trailer looks to be more suited for a go-fast boat. It has a GVW of 10500 and a listed capacity of 8900, so it weighs 1600. I can tell this trailer does not like having the boat on it. It visibly flexes some, and the leaf springs are VERY close to being bottomed out just sitting there.

But, it came with the boat, and I had no trouble getting it home 250 miles when I bought the boat. I only use the trailer a few times a year to go 2 miles each way from my house to the ramp. The boat stays on a boat lift in the summer and on the trailer in the winter.

I have not researched the 290, but the 270 gained quite a few options as standard features and the dry weight increased accordingly. My trailer has a 15,000# capacity. MM

I've had the Denali for a couple months now and have made trips to Pa and Il with it. Average mileage fully loaded with luggage was 15MPG. I haven't towed with it yet so it will be interesting to see what I get. We've been driving it in town for a few weeks and the average is about 14.7 MPG with no extra weight or load. I don't want to say that fuel economy isn't important but as long as it does what I bought it for then it is what it is.

My city driving is pure city driving, no interstate at all, lots of stops and starts with my heavy foot. Is the Denali a 3/4 ton with 8 lug wheels? MM

No, it's 6 lug 1/2 ton with factory air suspension on the rear and torsion bar up front. Even loaded out with luggage the truck sat level. My wife is a jewelry maker and she had about 150 pounds of stones along with books and tools in the thing.

I get about 10 mpg on the highway towing the Monaco. MM
