What happens to Sandy’s boats?

I stumbled onto one on Yachtworld already. Kind of surprised someone would pay a broker to sell a totalled boat.

I think the insurance companys deal with the auction houses as I have seen a few sites with totaled boats. I have also seen a couple on CL. One was completely burned up and the dude was trying to sell the hull for someone that wanted to convert it into a race boat (Haha, Good Luck with that!). Another was a guy offering an old Egg Harbor for free to the person who raises and removes it.

I just think of all the good parts. Remember a couple years ago someones 340DA was totaled out mainly from a trashed windshield, smashed arch and torn seats.

Here is an on-line auction.................... http://www.tradeonlytoday.com/home/523029-storm-damaged-boat-auction-set-for-dec-18

Tru-Markets will offer a large selection of boats damaged by Hurricane Sandy in a series of monthly online auctions, beginning Dec. 18.

“We are committed to helping the East Coast recuperate after the Hurricane Sandy catastrophe,” Tru-Markets managing partner Chad Farrell said in a statement. “We are working diligently to assist individuals, businesses, and insurance companies recover their property losses.”
According to BoatUS, it is estimated that more than 65,000 recreational boats were damaged or lost as a result of Hurricane Sandy. The group also estimated damage in the range of $650 million for recreational boats, making the storm the single-largest industry loss since BoatUS began keeping track in 1966.
Rebuilders, boat companies, dealers and brokers and the general public are invited to bid on the storm-damaged boats. Anyone interested in the boats can inspect them prior to the auction. Registration is free.
The December auction features boats and yachts with claim values of as much as $170,000, including a Sea Ray Sundancer 290, a Luhrs Tournament 380 fishing boat, a Carver 32 yacht and a Mainship 390 trawler.

I hear ya! On the Tru Markets website there is a totaled '01 280 and in the pictures is another 280 lying next to it on its side. Hopefully at the very least the parts will make their way to ebay so others won’t have to pay a fortune for new parts. Especially items like the windshield, bilge vent covers, and other model specific parts.

Dave, thanks for this. My brother-in-law who claims to have worked on large ships as a deck hand is looking for a get rich quick deal. I have seen the guy almost sink a pontoon boat and I won't let him anywhere near the helm of my 260DA! I will pass this web link along to him and keep well clear of anything he gets involved in.
