Who is running the AC and Gen when on the hook at night (Diesel)?

Just ran my Onan (diesel) generator for four days straight over the 4th - no problem. I started with a fresh impeller just to be safe though. :)

Not sure what you mean by the windows don't open? I have 3 hatches topside and 4 small windows port & starboard. Between these I can keep some decent air flow down below. If I install a screen at the door to keep bugs out I will be able to have a lot of air. The genny is a bit too loud to run all night. I may look into a better muffler and some sound attenuation around the engine. I know a guy that takes a length of hose, sticks it into his exhaust port and into the water to quiet his down. Never has had an issue but I'm not very comfortable with this method.

We start her up before we leave the dock and generally don't shut her down tell the dock side power in ready. I wouldn't try jerryrigging any gas gen set as way to many liabilities to be had IMO.

I run my gas generator all the time but I will not run it if I am tied up to some one that is dangerous. I use the front anchor and open the front hatch to get a little breeze also have 3 co. I never use the rear anchor. Also if co monitors go off I shut everything down and correct the problem.

During my lastouting we ran the gen set while on the hook for the first time. Only problem we had was the strainer kept pickingup grass. We were anchored up in a grassy area; had to clean the strainer outevery 6 to 8 hours. Just one of thosethings you don’t think about until you start using the generator on a regularbasis. Also make sure you have an extra impeller. An impeller you know fitsyour particular gen set. Be surprised how many different impellers there arefor the same generator.

I also run the Gen when off the dock and we sleep on hook often. Gen is pretty quiet and I like a 72 degree boat at night in florida or bahamas. Feels a little luxurious at times but that is what my boat is for.
