My windlass works fine going up. When I try to lower the anchor there are times when the motor doesn't work. It is not that motor is working but nothing is happening. The motor will make no noise at all. If I keep trying, it will eventually work. Any Ideas on what would cause this?

Thanks

Bruce

Could also be a bad switch. Do you have a helm switch plus two switches at the bow? I just replaced a down switch last fall. The helm was fine but one of the switches on the bow failed. Easy fix if that is the cause.

can you share a link to the foot switch you used?......I think the 'down' switch on my boat needs replacing....

I purchased mine from West Marine. It too was an exact replacement. Search West Marine for windlass switches and you will find a variety of manufacturers. Prices are around $109.00.

If you do both of them you might want to look at the IMTRA that sells for 90 bucks at Defender or $109 at West Marine. Same amp load spec as the cheaper plastic one but it is made from bronze that is chrome plated. One of mine is a 2004 original and it looks as new as the one I just replaced. The plastic switches seem to show scuff marks and oxidation as they age.

Accidentally hit save twice.

I believe the manufacturer is "Good". There is only a switch at the helm. The previous owner told me that he put in a new switch. So i would think that isnt it.

thanks.....I found the original IMTRA switches on sale for $48 each (normally $69).......they should last for as long as I will keep the boat....
