Having all bottom paint stripped off. Will be getting two coats Pettit Trinidad. I have read of using a different first coat color so it shows through the top coat as it wears. Do many people actually do it that way. I don't see many examples in the yard. Pros and cons?
Thank you in advance.

This is my thought on it... The color of the hull, itself, is already a different color. However, first adding a different color and then a top color... when the top starts to wear away to where you see the underlying color... you still have protection by the bottom color. Whereas if you only use one color and that wears away to where you start to see the hull, you don't have any protection there.

That said... I only use one color. The bottom paint on my boat doesn't wear away fast enough in one season to warrant that. Since my boat is only in the water seasonally, I just touch up any spots that are starting to look thin each Fall.

In the end... it's all a personal preference.

I am the second owner of my boat. The PO used two colors. I think it makes sense, since it's easy to see when you need a new top coat prior to getting down to the fiberglass.
