5.7 liter 350 cub in 260 HP Merc Cruiser IO 260MR
I am looking for a boat manual for my 1985 SeaRay SV260 Sundancer. Does anyone know where I can locate one or a PDF of one? Any help would be much appreciated as I am running into dead ends. I cannot believe that SeaRay would not have even made one, but the more I cannot find one, the more I think they didn't.

Welcome aboard. What "boat manual" exactly are you looking for?

Thanks for responding, I'm looking for an "Owners Manual" for it.

Don't believe I ever had one for my '83, but I and some others on this board know those boats pretty well. Any questions we could answer for you?

Thanks Keokie! I Live in MN so she's in storage now and I just wanted to read up on her a bit for spring. No power comming from my breaker board for my shore power when hooked up so i have to trouble shoot that. Have few other questions that i have that i may ask you this spring when i get her back home. Things like is the portabotty base the only waste holding tank or is there a larger one somewere too? Where does the water drain into that will be comming from the sinks and shower drain for instance???? Thanks for replying!

Welcome aboard, Musky!

Sea Ray definitely had an owner's manual for their boats. Whether or not you still have the original, though, after nearly 40 years is a whole 'nother story. And trying to find one on the internet is the needle in a haystack thing. HOWEVER, SR does have owner's manuals on their website in the owner's section. As you go back, sometimes way back as in this case, though, what they have digital files of is hit or miss. But the good news is that the systems your boat uses are the same as other boats so an owner's manual for a similar boat from a another year will still be helpful. Sometimes, the owner's manual was actually more of a "general" manual that works for many similar boats - such as "sport cruisers", for example.

Go look at whats available - I'm sure you'll find something that will help.

In the meantime...

-- Shore power. Check pedestal breaker. Check for power at the boat end of the cable. Check boat breaker/fuse. Check to see if you have power on the backside of the breaker board.

-- A porta-potti is just that. What you see is what you get. You could have the "upgraded" pump-out option though. If you do, follow the hoses - there may be a macerator involved along with the pump-out deck fitting (using a Y-valve).

-- Some sinks drain overboard. Follow the drain line. Sometimes they drain into a cavity below the cabin floor (and/or into a "sump box" there) and then get pumped overboard. Sometimes they drain into the bilge.

Once you start looking more closely at things, you'll figure it out. AND.. don't spend too much time trying to figure things out via the internet. If the boat has had multiple owners the years (or even just one other owner), there's no saying what kind of changes have been made. Which brings us back to... physically checking what you have "to be sure".

Musky, I am somewhat familiar with the 80s boats. does yours have a v-bunk table or separate dinette at bottom of the stairs?
If vbunk then your 85 260 became a 86 to 90 250. If you have separate dinette then it became the 86 to 89 268. And I know you can find those owners manual on SeaRay website.
I’m guessing the latter.

Thanks Lazy, Thanks Pirate. good info for me moving forward. I have a waste cap on outside on the boat for pump out so was just thinking maybe it pumps from a seperate holding tank located somewhere, i will just have to look closer this spring and follow hoses like you said. Pirate, the table is on side at bottom of the steps. thanks again to both of you.

Yep, became the 268. I had an 87 and a 89. If you have porta pottie, there is no separate holding tank. The plumbing goes out the back of the toilet to the pump out hull fitting OR to a mascerator to a thru hull.
On both my 268. The mascerator was in the bathroom cabinet. The 87 discharged out the side, the 89 ran to the bilge and out an underwater thru hull.
The 87 had a switch on dash to run mascerator, the 89 had a key switch on the bathroom cabinet.
Picture is my current 91 showing the discharge hose and the key switch for the mascerator.
Hope it helps.

But keep in mind that there are no "definites" or "guarantees" when it comes to used boats. ANYTHING could have been changed/altered/modified over the years. For example, it's possible that the porta-potti DOES empty to a secondary holding tank. Start with what "should be there", but check it out for modifications. Trust but verify.

yes, thank you. good disclaimer, she had 2 prev owners so ya never know.

Yep. Trust but verify.

From the factory your sinks should drain overboard. The port potty could be just that. Many porta potties were plumbed to be pumped out from the deck. And some had full sanitation systems with a holding tank in the bilge. For that generation 260, here is a great remedy for a sanitation system. They are pretty easy to install in the space provided and provide a very good system that is comfortable to use, odor free when used right, easy to pump out, and generous with capacity. Here it is:

I really like those 260's. The group I run with have had 4 of them. They are built pretty well, look beautiful, have a lot of creature comforts, and are easy to work on/improve. It's relatively easy to add things like windlass, AC, generators, etc.

Oh, and they respond really, really well to power upgrades..

Thanks Keokie. good info. can't wait to get to spring so i can get back on her. Hope you all have a Merry Christmas!....or a happy Hanukkah.
