310 Sundancer Thread (2007 & newer)

@mobocracy Bugs are not a problem on our lake. These panels are mainly for rain cover... big down pours. The new Bimini stays up all of the time now for shade and light showers.

All very nice. I have been considering modifying the factory rear bimini on my '07 310 so that it extends another 18-24" back. This would require adding some support stanchions and new canvas for it. I'd kind of like your exact setup, but the admiral has indicated she doesn't want the entire cockpit shaded like that.

I had a camper canvas made this past spring.
I have screens that don't zip out, and the isinglass panels roll up, or zip completely out.
The whole panel also zips out to remove the sides and back.

Quick question for you 310 guys...

We sold our 2006 290 DA earlier this year...looking to get back into a cruiser soon. We are looking at the 310 as an upgrade to the 290. One of the things I didn't like about the 290 was the forward berth...is the 310 forward berth any better? The 290 berth also doubled over as a couch...so that didn't help in my opinion. But I definitely looking for something with a more comfortable forward berth.

Thoughts?

The 310 has an angled birth so whoever is sleeping towards the bow will have maneuver to get off the bed. As far as comfort I replaced the stock mattress with a memory foam queen size bed I cut down to match OEM form.

Hi Bryan-

Yes, I have the same issue. To clarify, my white vinyl (nontransparent) is looking ok. However, the large white sunbrella sections that cover the speaker areas is starting to show it's age. I saw a 2007 310 over the weekend with tan sunbrella speaker sections and it still looked "as new".

Long term, I am planning on either replacing the sections with color-coordinated starboard (no sunbrella) with holes for surface mounting the speakers (similar to current model year) or simply replacing the white sunbrella with a tan color.

The bigger problem I have is why did they put that white sunbrella fabric behind/near the cockpit grill?!? Ketchup/bbq sauce/food splatter don't play well with it...

What did you end up going with? I have a similar issue on my 2010 310 sundancer. The fabric over the speaker panels has a stain that I cannot get out. I’m considering just reupholstering the panel with new vinyl mesh but I’m having trouble identifying the OEM fabric. I see it described as Sunbrella brand but I still cannot find a spec for this. Any suggestions?

I reupholstered the panels with white marine vinyl and surface mounted the previously back-mounted speakers. This eliminated the need for any mesh material and ended up looking as good in my opinion. Other years and models have been done similarly from the factory (that’s where I got the idea).

Hi folks! I am currently under contract on a 2007 310 Sundancer - just waiting for the weather to warm up to perform a sea trial. Can anyone give me the dimensions of the transom seat when folded up? I've read that it's 6.5" x 36.5" of usable space but I'm assuming that's for the lower portion (where the location would be placed). Does anyone have the dimensions of their actual logo? I'm getting the boat logo designed and I would like to know how much space I have to work with. Thanks!

Those dimensions are of the actual seat in it’s folded position with the strap snapped.
When completely stored and is some room inside but not much. I have a stern anchor, water hose and some miscellaneous items in mine.

My boat is sitting in my yard, but I'm not sure what you're asking.

Sorry if my request was confusing. I'm trying to understand what space is available on the transom for a boat name. Here is a pic showing the dimensions that I'm looking for.

Does anyone know how to remove the hull liner panels on the cabin ceiling under the windshield on a 2001 310? They appear to removable. My marina's service department indicated the hull liner needed to be removed in order to reseal the windshield. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We re-sealed our windshield by using a plastic caulk scraper from Home Depot to dig out the dried up caulk that was coming out in chunks. Then re-sealed it along the bottom with BoatLife Life Seal silicon. Has been dry since.

Also did the deck "Sky lights" which are in our 05 300DA but DID NOT completely remove them from their bedding per direction of the SR dealer. Just removed the first 1/4 to 1/2 inch of caulk for those as the base material which isn't exposed was in great shape. Only the upper layers that had sun exposure and dry cracking had to go.

Thanks very much. I will need to confirm with Marinemax to see what they recommend for resealing the windshield (always good to get a 2nd opinion!). My marina will be resealing all 3 Taylor hatches and all 6 portlights as well. Resealing the sun pad rails will likely be the most challenging and costly. I'm having an interior guy look at options for accessing this hardware with removable hull liner panels on the ceiling on either side of the 20" forward hatch. My goal is to make anything that can leak as serviceable as possible and easier to maintain. During my search for a clean 310 I found many in sad shape due to rain water leaks in the cabin that weren't addressed soon enough. One boat needed a complete tear out of the moldy hull liner and the cost to remediate mold and replace all interior fabrics and cushions was $12K. The only reason I looked closely at this boat was it had 2 near new Mercruiser 350 MPI engines with FWC and 140 hours on each ($40K+).

There is always something to fix it seems. Last weekend my generator wouldn't start. I was finally able to start it from the control panel on the generator itself, but then it failed and gave me the code of undercurrent. Now I have to figure out what that means exactly for the generator and how to fix it. We don't have the extended warranty on it so I'm going to be learning a lot about the 310.

My Kohler gen has a corroded sea water pump. Kohler exited the gas generator market, my shop says they found me a pump kit but it is the LAST ONE they could find. No more Kohler parts and no aftermarket parts. When this goes bad its time for a NEW GEN?

My understanding is that westerbeak sued kohler for some sort of patent infringement and won and required kohler to leave the market.

JimFromMD, I can confirm Westerbeke winning the patent infringement suit. Courts ordered a cease and desist and Kohler was forced to exist the gas engine generator market. Westerbeke has several proprietary features - the most important of which are low carbon monoxide exhaust and 1800 rpm operation at full load (equates to quiet operation and long life). Was recently looking at several different 310's with Westerbekes or Kohler gensets. The more I learn about Westerbeke the more I feel good about buying my 310 with one (this is my first Westerbeke). It's very quiet and compact - ran beautifully under full load with AC, two burner cook top and water heater on.

Martin777, Good luck with your Kohler - hopefully an aftermarket manufacturer will jump in soon to fill the need for replacement parts. This will likely depend on number of installed units out there and whether they can justify the tooling investment. Honda 2KW portables on the swim platform with soft start module on AC unit are not a bad option either. They'll run about 72 hours on 6 gallons - they have an internal fuel pump that's capable of drawing fuel from an external tank. At one Dometic had a video of this setup under test.
