I think I am going to make a pattern with roll of masking paper like this,
https://www.homedepot.com/p/TRIMACO...Red-Rosin-Medium-Weight-Paper-35145/202040751

Gonna be a fun project this winter!

12mil....going all-in! I like it.

For what it's worth - I would not waste time patterning it. Cut as you go. Have a few sheets of plastic/rosin paper around for the handful of really tight spots you will need to pattern.

And buy one of these if you don't have one. This thing is a life saver with all the curves on the boat. Especially the long uneven runs. Draw right on the plank. Someone here linked this before I started my project. It was excessively handy...

For the people that built new hatches. Mine measures 1” thick. What did you use and how did you get to 1” thick

Thank you in advance

I glued two pieces of 1/2" marine ply together, then painted them (though not really necessary).

I used the vinyl from Home Depot. We've really enjoyed not having carpet/runners. Having easy access to the hatches has been quite nice too. It opens up a lot of storage that was previously a pain to get to (runners).

What did you use to frame the hatches? it looks amazing

Broke my foot December 1st. Just got the boot off to find out surgery Feb 21, the. 8 weeks in the boot for 8 weeks

With all the curves, where did you start your floor. I keep looking at the starboard side by the long couch and working right to left…. There will be a little backtracking to get through the door and work to the starboard side

Any help greatly appreciated!

I think with just about any "click and lock" type flooring you have to start in the upper right of the room. I lined up a few boards with the forward/strbrd hatch edge and worked from there. For me it was a lot of back and forth with this full section of flooring until I had one full length of the boat done. Then you start the fun on the other side...

Thank you, I took your advice.

I did the straight line of planks to give me a reference and started at the long couch worked my way out to the hatch, then worked my way piecing in to the right of the door….

There is not one thing square to the hatches, except the flooring I put in. Also, the floor has 3 areas that the chine make it into the flooring, so I heated the floor up enough to soften it and put some weight on it to bend and follow the angle. It Worked good

I also did the lower aft area today….

Hoping another day will get the rest of the floor down…. Then another to do the hatches….

Next year will be the carpet on the walls and baseboard

couple more questions

As I continue, curious how you cut the flooring around the hatches.

I am thinking rip 1/2” plywood in 1” strips, stand on edge and outline the outside. Take the flooring past that, then use a router, should give a perfect opening….

PWhen I look up marine plywood at Home Depot, I am getting pressure treated and it’s 15/32” thick…

Was yours truly marine plywood (not PT) and was it really 1/2”?

I had the 410 Sundancer and I replaced the hatches with 3/4 marine grade plywood, I used trim pieces from same place I purchased the flooring so it would match and trimmed out the hatches to give a nice finished look.

I bought the plywood at Menards, they didn't carry such a product at my local Lowes/HD. I shouldn't have said marine ply. It is an exterior grade ACX ply. And yes it is 1/2" x 2. Fits the 1" opening perfectly without any shimming required.

I floored over the hatches, routered, installed the rest over the hatch and then routered that part. Pretty easy, but messy.

Not sure where you can find Marine grade plywood, but for sure not a Lowes or HD. 1/2" is not manufactured in the US anymore, it is 15/32" these days and 3/4" is 23/32". "A" means an A-grade face-no knots or voids, C means a C-grade back with knots and knotholes up to 1.5", and the X means exterior glue. Lowes and HD will carry some pretty Brazilian plywood that has 4+ plies and is "A" grade on both sides. No real need for pressure treated or Marine Grade in my mind unless you plan on sinking it....just my $0.02.

My tape measure is not calibrated to 1/32" so perhaps I was also wrong on the dims :)

I was certainly not meaning to correct you or anyone else. Just saying that if someone was looking for a full 1/2" or 3/4," it would be something less. The thickness dimension above is even less than 15/32, but there is a tolerance allowance..

Another one of those things that is advertised and sold as, but really isn't. I made the stuff for 26 years....

Ohhh zero worries on my part. I actually thought it was true 1/2" based on how well it fit. I should have researched before I posted :)

At least I came through with the Johnny Corners recommendation. ha. It's the best I could do on this one!

The wood thicknesses are metric, trees cut here, shipped to canada and/or ever seas processed into plywood and shipped back to us. Been doing that for years. If you can remember there was a big stick about trees being cut on federal land then shipped out of country and processed then sold back to us, they stopped it and said it needed to be processed in this country but its still metric.

Thank you! I wasn’t sure if you would notice the 1/16 of an inch less when 2 pieces are glued together.

You guys grow metric trees up there? Canada...such a mysterious country.
