The new muffler gets rid of engine noise out of the exhaust port. Now sounds kinda like a faint fan blower. However the clackty clack of the engine through the cockpit floor is so dominant that I found quieting the exhaust is irrelevant relative to sitting in the cockpit. My recommendation is to spend your money on other things. Even if the exhaust port made zero noise at all you'd still be as loud in the cockpit.
I have been on other boats where you could not hear the generator at all outside. They had two differences. first, they exhausted underwater and second, they located the generator under the cabin floor. However they were just as loud inside the cabin as ours is in the cockpit
