I have a 95' 250 Sundancer with a 5.7/V8 Mercruiser and it is time for a oil change. What you guys use for your's and what you recommend ?
Thank you in advance !!

We are getting dangerously close to an oil thread!
Not a dumb question at all. There are lots of oils that will work just fine and the oil threads can get downright confusing. On my boats I just stick with the manufacture labeled oil -- it's a little more $$, but you are only changing the oil once a year usually. So.. I used the Quicksilver oil in all of my Mercruiser engines. It's easy to get and there is no guesswork on if you are using the right oil. Likewise, I use the Volvo Penta labeled oil in my VP 300 now for the same reasons.

We always use what the owner manual recommends. Why would you do differently?

Seems like I open a can of warms???
Sort of :)

It's just that it's been talked about over and over again so it gets to be quite redundant for those that have been here a long time and it often morphs into a "he said, she said" kind of thing because there really is no "best" answer. Use the search bar if you want to read some more posts about that! ;)

I can understand why you're asking - it's a fair question. It looks like you've been here for 4 years but only with a couple posts so I guess that's still "new"!

That said... I'm not going to post my answer to the question :p

Because we obviously know more then any manufacturer could possibly know. Why else? :D
My sticker on valve cover says straight 40w. we dont need need no multi synthy girly panty-waist metrosexual expensive labratory petri-dish born juice and thats what i use.
Adhere to what the engineers decided is best 40 years ago and youll be fine.
Hey, dinosaurs died to lubricate my engine.

Exactly what he said!

Do you think oil technology has advanced since they put that label on your valve cover 40 years ago? 40 years ago a vehicle engine would never make it to 100,000 miles

True, but I know with Detroit's you still need to follow the label.
