Boat prices coming down? looks like it.

Based on the amount of fresh water 480's currently listed on boattrader, and their asking price, I'd say nothing has changed since Spring :)

Hmmm, it is the offering prices that have changed. Sellers are still living in the past with asking prices. If you see them they are not sold.

I check YachtWorld a couple of times a month for 44’-55’ boats (diesel only) here in California. I would say the inventory is up slightly and prices have come down. I have a friend who just picked up a boat and was very aggressive with his initial offer that was accepted by the seller. The market is shifting

Its still summer here in Florida but inventories are increasing for new. Sales cycles are lengthening back.

Check back in November, December. All those tugs are going to depreciate in value like a 2-dolla hoe.

Boat prices may not decrease this year, if not to say they are increasing. Because the consequences of the pandemic have caused the prices of almost everything, not just boats, to rise rapidly in the past two years

+1 to Dancer's comment. I'm pretty aggressive in my Roth IRA but at this point it's down about 23% and shows no sign of slowing down the fall.

The "Great Recession" of 2008 showed the DJIA losing about 40%.

Hang onto your hats gentlemen.
My business was doing quite well in 2007. I was doing consulting engineering for 22 factories. Half closed in 2008 and the others could no longer afford to pay me. I converted a few IRAs into Roths and paid the piper. Then I had to go back to "work" back to my roots as a plant engineer.

After a few years I converted all my retirement accounts into annuities. Once totally vested I moved them into "payments for life". At a 7% interest, and taking out 7% per year, my retirement savings is basically stable, but my cash flow is better than when I worked.

Gotta love annuities. My 2 financial "advisors" told me otherwise. Sucks to be them. My future was my own doing.

Five bucks a gallon for boat gas. Pfffft. Boating is what I worked for during the past 50 years.

Before this thread goes off the rails.......Not really sure what your success in the stockmarket has to do with boat prices though.

I do have a question/statement - I just don't understand the cost of the new center consoles. literally a million to two million for thirty something center console all the while boat's like Sea Ray's are worth nothing in comparison.

Take a the 2000's era of the 48 with a hard top. One of the nicest Sea Rays ever made, IMO. That boat new wasn't anywhere near the $2M mark and has everything over a 40' Scout. Again, JMO.

I don't see the boat market ever going back to what it was, meaning cabin cruisers and the like being made with diesel engines etc. everything is outboards now, everything.

It was pointed out that we may be heading into another recession like in 2008. Since that would affect the stock market, it would likely have a dramatic effect on boat prices.

As far as center console prices, the manufacturers will price them at what they can get. The market is changing. The millennials, for the most part, don't want cabin cruisers. They are the ones with high incomes so they are the driving force.

@370Dancer , we are headed for 2008 all over again, Biden has this count so f cked up, Janet yellen just printed one and a half trillion dollars. Just keep print it so we all have more money. Bunch of dopes

center console owners think SR owners are morons for paying for "cocktail barges".
Just reporting...

But I can buy 4 or 5 awesome cocktail barges for the price of one pricey center console. Still makes no sense to me for what you get.

I've been considering selling mine in favor of a waterfront property. I talked to a broker last week who ran all his reports and comparables and such. He recommended a price about 20% more than what I paid for mine almost two years ago based on his data and analysis. He's been doing this for 30 years, sells a lot of boats around here, so I would consider him a good source.

"The challenge might be dealing with lenders and surveyors in getting the values to match sales price.

Prices have softened a little over the past few months.

Nice well maintained Sea Rays remain popular and diesels for this size are too."

In years past, when I heard Center Console I thought of a fishing boat. Today, THEY ARE the cocktail barges.

In my area they all have 3 or 4 huge motors handing on the back. No fishing done. With all the extra deck space they can hold a huge amount of partiers.

If you are running a "cruiser" you are an old-timer. A CC is a millennial's boat.

Not saying one is better or worse than the other. It's simply that the times they are a changin'. Seems like if you change with the times you also have to pay the piper.

I've owned a couple of center consoles and I'm far from a millennial. I'm also seriously considering going back to a mid-30's foot CC. Don't knock 'em if you haven't actually spent time on one. Some are pure fishing machines like Contender and Yellowfin. They aren't on my personal radar. Scout, Boston Whaler and Chris Craft make some really nice family oriented center consoles with plenty of comfort features and those are on my radar.

The CC party machines are the Nor-Tech, Sunsation, Concept, Formula, Cigarette and a few others

If we end up purchasing a waterfront property a center console will be on the short list of things to buy right away. Not one with three to four motors hanging off the back though.

The CC groups are either fishing, or going to the sandbar.

Get there quick, party out and get home.

My buddy here loves fishing in his 32' Intrepid, and we tease each other about my comfort, lack of rod holders and of course, the ice maker.

CHANGE IS CONSTANT

Seems the only buyers of non-trailerable, overnight capable cruisers today are seniors.

I don't need to go 50 MPH

I like my RV on the water with the HVAC, shower, hot/cold running water, a comfortable bed, galley, microwave, gas grill, icemaker, fridges, and a toilet that I'm comfortable sitting on.

Oh and yes, I HAVE LOTS OF SHADE, and if it's hot I can plug in a couple of squirrel cage fans

At 66 I no longer care to spend 2 hours bouncing my guts out, cooking in the sun to go out and fight fish.

BEST !

RWS

I compare today's boating "cruisers" to Harley Davidson riders. Big, heavy, cushy and don't handle/perform all that great. The last bike I owned was a Road Glide SVO. Heavy lazyboy seat and don't try to go around a corner much over the posted speed limit.

With today's cc's the giant hard tops provide plenty of shade but if that isn't enough, many have rear shades that extend to the transom with a touch of a button. They also have air conditioned helms (my 390 doesn't have that) and berths. Many also have what they call summer kitchens. (solid surface burner, electric grill, microwave and a couple of refrigerator/freezers - Catalina 34) Yeah, I'm sounding like a CC fanboy. I am sort of. I'm a fair weather boater on Lake St Clair which doesn't get big waves.
