I agree with that view, but the service still stinks. Once you get the mortgage paid off it takes forever to receive the paperwork stating you have no lien on your boat. I'll bet I spent four hours on the phone multiple times trying to pin someone down on the status of our waiver of lien. It was almost impossible to get a person to answer the phone at the documentation center. Once I hit the lotto and spoke with a human, the person gave me clear instructions that worked. This was month after I began in earnest to get things sorted. From that point it was still 6 weeks to establish documented debt free ownership of our boat. Most services in our government do not work well, and when you try to get something done, you deal with endless phones trees that accomplish nothing. Pretty discouraging.I think it's worth $26/yr to not have to put the states numbers on my bow.
My children live in CA so I get what you are saying. However, you are paying through the nose on countless other fees and taxes by virtue of living there. Enjoy your reduced DMV fees. Should help with paying for all the other CA government expenses.Depends on where you live. That cert allows me to avoid paying CA dmv fees which are significantly more costly than $26.

PS....Don't fall for the offers for 3rd party firms to handle your re-documentation needs. It is only $26 if you go straight to the NVDC.
