Hey guys...Well the season is upon us here in the Northeast and with a 7 month old in the crew now we have been thinking about a slip at our local river since it will be more convenient.

What are some things to consider?

Its a fresh water river so I would need magnesium anodes; correct?
What about tying up ? I imagine I would be in a slip with a finger on one side. My Sundeck has 3 cleats on the side. Whats the proper way to tie the boat. I know how to fasten lines to the cleats however I am not sure of the proper configuration of lines.

Thanks in advance guys

"i know how to fasten a line to a cleat" - :thumbsup::lol:

About the corrosion protection, there are anodes on your outdrive, you shouldn't have to do anything else, especially since you don't have a shore power system.

About tieing up to the dock, a search will show you lots of diagrams, it's hard to type how to do it, and there are even more opinions and "right" ways to do that than there are to fasten a line to a cleat!

Ditto what was said above about trying to explain tying up via words. It depends on the dock situation, as well - ie: (1) or (2) finger piers, no finger piers, poles, etc. The best thing is to look at how others are tying up in the marina you choose. Don't just look at one or two boats - look at a bunch.

You may be next to someone with shore-power or a bad grounding system, bad anodes, painted-over anodes, etc. so it is very important to make sure your anodes are good. Have somebody check your Mercathode system, as well, once in a while.

Magnesium or Aluminum is what you want. Here's a good write-up on that info: http://petersmarine.blogspot.com/

Hope this helps!

Weave, finger slip, 3 cleats. Bow line, stern line, forward spring. Crossed lines at the transom if possible.

Exactly what I was looking for Dave...Thanks!

Berth...shouldn't I be worried about stray current like Lazy indicates?
