I would not travel those waters without an AR and handguns.

Been reading a good bit on line (so it must be true  ) about the increasing lawlessness in the Bahamas. There's a good bit of it over on THT as well.

Was considering a run over to Bimini or West End with CSR OCGRANT and a bit of hopping around over there but I have some serious concerns.

The flip side is that it's no more dangerous over there than any large American city, like Chicago.

Well, I'm not going to Chicago either.

For those who may be legally carrying, well that's also illegal over there, with strict penalties.

What's a boater to do?

BEST !

The sky's falling!
20,000 boaters visit the Bahamas each year with few incidents. If you act like a fool in places you shouldn't be, you'll get tagged - that's just the way it is anywhere. I have been taking my boats over there for years without a worry. We've been in areas where the little voice said "you shouldn't dwell here" and we took care of the business and moved on.
Another fact for future reference - It is legal to bring a firearm into the Bahamas (sans rifles); you must declare it, document it, and list the quantity of rounds when clearing in. You are not allowed to carry the firearm on your person when not on the vessel.
The rules are simple and the Bahamians are great people.

Wow… you guys jump the gun a bit…. Until there are bodies no one is dead

You are right. I really do hope for a miracle. From the reports I have read the crime scene was really a mess. It can also be difficult to recover someone who was dumped in the open ocean. I certainly don’t wish these people dead and the title of the thread did make an assumption.

Yeah, first this was Grenada/St Vincent.
Way south of the Bahamas.
Just north of Venezuela completely different situation.

Ah yeah, ok. I am sure they are lounging beach side with a nice cuba libre ...

Man, If you think there is lawlessness in the Bahama's you should try Baltimore at night.

You just need to be smart as to where you decide go and hangout. I go to Baltimore a lot in the spring and fall, too hot in the summer months. I know where to go and and not go and I hang around the boat at night. The Bahama's are not any different. Been there many times, just not recently. I would think @ocgrant and @ttmott would be the best references to listen too for that.

The thing that is scary sometimes is, while crossing (by yourself) and watching the fast targets on the radar and wondering if your the next stop. A Riffle is a good thing to carry on a boat if your crossing large bodies of water. Pistols are pretty much useless in those situations and can only get you into more trouble, sometimes riffles will do the same. JMO.

I hope I never get boarded….. you guys would be lined up for my stuff before I got back

Big difference between being boarded and escaped criminals showing up in another port with your boat.

After seeing your masterful plumbing job, I'm not sure you have stuff I want... :D
You smart asses ….. that was an emergency repair an hour before a house party….. it a piece of art.
