Firing gun from boat - illegal?

Maybe someone will know for sure but I believe in the Maryland peoples republic it is illegal to even have a firearm aboard, regardless if the boat is your domicile. Remember reading that and wondering how transiting boats made it through.

In NC only restrictions are no larger that 10 gauge, boat must be stationary and engine off. Can hunt dear from a boat, too. Same restrictions.

Nope, you can have guns aboard your boat. Shotgun is fine, pistol if you have HQL or CCP. While not a castle state, castle rules apply like it's your house.

Is the CCP maryland or any other state CCP??

No, CCP is by state only.

Thats what I thought as they require you to get a MD CCP if your even driving thru with a out of state CCP and carrying a pistol.

NC passed Constitutional Carry in the Senate this year. Don't know if it will make it all the way to law. But they kept the CCP permit optional so can still CCP with reciprocal states, such as VA.

These laws are confusing. Yesterday I went to Freestate Indoor gun range to inquire about shooting there. I have Virginian Dragoon .44 Magnum & Ruger Single Six .22 that I brought with me when i moved from Ohio.
They are not registered in MD. I specifically asked about this needing a HQL because I don’t want to walk in and have them confiscated.
Here is exactly what they told me… I don’t need a HQL to own, only to purchase in MD. I don’t need an HQL to shoot or transport as long as pistols and ammo are separate and carried where inaccessible from drivers seat.
I cant see why HQL would be required on a boat.
And I don’t need any HQL to buy black powder pistols which is why I just bought an 1858 Remington Navy .36 (sweet) and will be getting a 1851 Colt Navy .36 next week.
Kills just as dead but ships direct to house. What laws, we don’t need no steekin’ laws.
PS when we had the house fire, the cops asked if i had any guns to get them out because thieves like to loot houses after fires. They watched me carry out and put in car and never asked about permits.

He misinformed you. There are ranges here that allow just about anything and there are ranges that follow the letter of the law and everything in between.

I've taken all of the MD classes on firearms. In every class an HQL is required to own, acquire and use at a range - a pistol in MD. I also have CCP for three other states and their laws are not much different. Now get pulled over or let a LEO find you in possession without proper licensing and see what happens. I recommend you call your local state police to find out the exact law, they are who governs the licensing in MD.

Black powder is legal and separate from other laws in MD and most other states. Although they are trying to change all that.

Question for you? Do you really think in today's world that is alright to own unlicensed hand guns? In some states it's mandatory one year in jail just for possession.

Do I think its ok to own an unlicensed firearm?
Being as Ive owned these since 1974 before most these laws were enacted you dam right i do.
Do you think its right that you dont need a license to operate a boat if born before 1972?
As for let a LEO find out? Read my post. Not one ever gave me a problem, including the ones at Elk Neck range.
Don’t confuse a CCP with transport. I dont CC. Be a little difficult with a pistol with 8” barrel the weighs near 5 pounds.

Yes I do. I do not feel a required license is constitutional. We absolutely do not need a registry.

What's an unlicensed hand gun?

It's AMAZING how behind the times and restrictive some states are!

Indiana has offered a lifetime license to carry a handgun for years - note, it's not concealed or open carry - it's just for a handgun - carry style is up to the person. Long gun no permit needed.

With the recent constitutional carry passage, no permit is needed unless you travel out of state and then is just for reciprocal purposes (and 25, soon to be 26 states are constitutional carry states).

And registration - no registration here in Indiana... only the 4473 which is required if you buy from a FFL, same as anywhere. Private party - you're good to go as long as they are a "proper person"....exactly the way it should be...

Well, there's purchasing a handgun, there's owning a handgun, there's possessing a handgun, all different things. A quick Google shows only 3 states and DC have 'license to own'... IL, MA, NY.

In either case I don't see licensing causing the criminals to change their ways. The lack of a license is not going to stop the next liquor store holdup or driveby.

Upstate NY is a little easier on the gun laws. But you should research that a bit. On LI unregistered hand guns are mandatory one year in prison, unless that changed is the past five years.

Yeah a lot of the mid-west are constitutional carry and reciprocity and how I am legal in most of the states for CCP. The north east states are the exception and require individual licensing, most of west coast as well.

Don't get me wrong, only quoting laws and regulation that I am aware of. That doesn't mean I agree with it, but I do understand the need in some locations, especially in NY and CA and the larger cities. There are too many people that can't handle the responsibility of owner ship, or worse, don't understand that responsibility and make light of it.

I live in PA. Our constitution is even more clear. Shall not be infringed. The libs hate it. The State police cannot even keep a registry when doing NICS checks on new purchases.

Ah, thought you were in NY. PA is a completely different story for sure.

I guess I'm lucky where I live in WA. I wanted the grandsons to learn how to shoot so we got the ol' Daisy Red Rider out of the gun safe and grabbed the box of BB's and walked about 150 yards down to the river to shoot. After a couple of hours of shooting mixed in with gun safety rules they had it down pat.

Tell me, what is an HQL?
